Richard and Elaine are so special to me. God has blessed me with knowing them for almost 20 years now. God brought them into my life at a very special time. I was new on the mission field and needed godly wisdom and support. My earthly father loved me very much, but he was not strong in spiritual things, so my Heavenly Father blessed me with Richard. I feel with my whole heart that he was my second father. Thank you Elaine, Rick, Gary and Connie for sharing him with me. I was so amazed that he would care for me, but he did - a real example of God's agape love. He didn't only care about me in words, but with all he had and all he could do. He prayed for me. He prayed with me. He counseled me with such wise advice - some of which I didn't always want to hear, but always needed. He brightened my day with laughter. He was so positive. He was always witnessing to those around him about the love of God. He had his flaws, but I can't think what one of them might have been.
I will miss him deeply, but am looking forward to hearing one of his jokes when I see him again in heaven.
A beautiful poem by my dear friend, Tina Clary, says it well:
Death leaves a heartache that no one can heal
Love leaves sweet memories that no one can steal
Heartache and sorrow we often meet
But everything changes at Jesus' feet.
I look forward to seeing you, Richard, at Jesus' feet!
