The memorial for Uncle Dean was yesterday and I wanted to stand up and tell the many guest that one month ago his niece Jean Vanderhoff sat down and spent 5 hours going through picture albums with Uncle Dean. He talked about each picture with a wonderful memory. What a precious time!Thank you Lord! We will miss you Uncle Dean!
The most recent memory of Richard was the day he took the girls; me, Ruth, and his beloved wife Doris on a long ride, in the hills where he used to live; then onto Chinese Food; lots of laughs and it was a wonderful day. The earliest memory was his interviewing me for a position on the Portland Police Bureau. Richard did some very nice things for me while I worked for him and I have never forgotten them. Please accept my most truly and deepest sympathy for Doris and family. Doris, you are one of my best friends ever. I love you!!!
I knew Dick and worked with (for) him over the years at the Portland Police Bureau. A good man and a great boss. I wish I had known of his Marine Corps Service so we could have discussed the South Pacific. Semper Fi. Jeff Barker (PPB Retired Lt.)
Dick was an exceptional member of the Portland Police Bureau providing professional leadership for all working with him. He will be missed by family and friends alike. My prayers are with the family at this difficult time.
My prayers are with you all, and will be praying especially on the 24th since I am out of town and can't be there. God bless!
