Roland Corey Anderson

My experience working with Roland as an intern at the Seattle Aquarium inspired me to pursue a career as a research scientist. He was a great mentor and because of him I chose a marine biology PhD program over medical school. I'll always remember sitting down to dinner with him in Bonaire after a long day of octopus observation to discuss cephs, classical music, Whidbey, and life in general. I am grateful that our paths crossed.

Roland was a friend and co-worker at the Seattle Aquarium for about 35 years. He was a kind mentor to me, as I arrived on the scene with zero knowledge of marine invertebrates. He was always willing to go collecting to find the specific animals I "just had to have" for my classes. I got to know him even better after we both retired. I am so grateful I got to participate in the joy he experienced in creating his beutiful little home and yard on Whidbey. Can't believe he is gone way too soon....

Roly was a good friend and colleague to all of us who knew him, both human and cephalopodan. His dedication and enthusiasm always will be remembered and appreciated.

Roly, my friend since 7th grade, was fun to be around, seemingly always of good cheer. I will miss visiting with him at our reunions.

Unfortunately, we just see each other time to time but shared the same enthusiasm, the cephalopods. Just had a few conversations lately but now, we realise that the cephalopod family is not complete. We will do our best to continue with his legacy
