I knew Russell was a character long before I started with Delta. He was so competent, confident and easy going flying a trip with him was not really like working. I had my initial IOE on the 727 with him, and he let me do EVERYTHING, which showed his confidence in me and in himself and allowed me to learn the airplane quickly. I'm sure he was just as easy going and competent flying Corsairs off the USS Boxer in the cold waters off North Korea. What a guy and a blessing to have known him. Love to Eva, Laurie, Julie, and Russell Jr.
We love you Uncle Russel! Some of the happiest memories of my childhood and of my life included time with Uncle Russell. He was a great man. Funny and very sweet. He will be so missed. For sure he has St. Peter up there in stitches. We love you Holladay family and are thinking of and praying for you. Love, Elise, Roberto, Max, Helen and Leo.
Russ had his own style which was a great combination of the professional aviator, class and easy going humor. Flying with Russ was always a pleasure. God speed, Captain.
Just thinking "Aunt Eva and Uncle Russell" brings to mind so many memories that shaped my childhood! As for Uncle Russell, there was no other character who could make you think you were so special while still just being a kid! He was such a tease, but always with a kindness factor. And always a great jokester and joke teller. That is a rare gift, and I think he passed it on to Julius! My life was tremendously enriched by Russell Holladay, and I look forward to seeing him again in Heaven!! Along with the rest of us aunts, uncles & cousins!! I love you ALL!!!
Russ was the consummate gentleman. He was a man who epitomized what an airline captain should be. I always enjoyed his company and it was a pleasure to have flown many flights as his copilot.
