The first time I met Sharon, she came to my house to interview me to become a Big Sister. I had a 45 lb furry dog at the time named Menomonee. He didn't like most people at all besides me. When Sharon entered my living room wearing a very pretty full skirt, Menomonee suddenly got UNDER her skirt and began sniffing. I was absolutely mortified. Here I was, trying to make a good impression so I could be a Big Sister, and my dog was sniffing her. It was only then that Sharon began laughing and explained she had a Golden Retriever, Shadow, and Nommy was clearly sniffing Shadow's scent. It was hilarious and Sharon took it quite well. That was our first meeting. After I became a Big Sister, Sharon and I gradually became friends. I often stopped at her house to chat, have some iced tea, and, of course, play with Shadow. I loved Sharon just as I love her husband and children, and shall miss her terribly She added so much to my life at a time when I needed her (and the program) desperately.

I send my love and deepest condolences to you, Phil, and your children. My heart is with you. Shalom. Claudia Huckabee

I am so sorry to hear about Sharon. I have such wonderful memories of her at Oglethorpe Point Elementary and the many hours she volunteered. She was always so helpful and friendly. She will be missed!

Sharon served many years for the Big Brothers Big Sisters and for the Marty Lyons Foundation and I served along side of her and I enjoyed seeing her take pride in the accomplishments of the children and the joy of the children when they received their wishes from the Foundation. Some of her happiest days were at the Christmas parties. Being diehard Florida and Georgia supporters, we had this agreement not to speak to each other on the day of the Georgia Florida game, but other days were okay. She leaves behind many smiles and much laughter for you, her family, to remember and gain strength from in the years to come. God bless you all and have mercy on God because he surely has gained a screaming Gator to add to His band in the sky above. Rest in peace, Sharon Lyons, you earned it.
