DEAR ROSALIE, SYLVIA AND RAY,

Words cannot express the heartfelt sorrow for your loss from many of us here in Brawley. Hermano Acevedo will be missed by many. He touched and helped so many souls here in Brawley by his tireless work for the Lord and lived a full and meaningful life. He made so many things possible to so many when there was no hope. We have the highest respect for the Acevedo Family and my fondest of memories of all of you children and Hermana Acevedo, your wonderful mother will forever have a special place in my heart.
Just last month we also lost Bernice Lucio, a dear and beloved elder member of The 1ST Mexican Baptist Church. I can see many of our deceased elders rejoicing in heaven at having your father with them once again and that’s definitely including my own grandparents, Brijida and Francisco Murillo. Your family has always been in our fondest of conversations when we talk about our childhood memories in our beloved church. The Acevedo Family has always been respected and greatly missed by all in Brawley. Again, we are sorry for your loss but what a heavenly gain it is! My prayers and thoughts are definitely with all of you at this time. Miss and love you all.

Dear Acevedo Family,
I want you to know how much all the Ellett family respected your loved one. He was a special servant of God's in Brawley. I am sure he and John Ellett are in heaven speaking Spanish to each other right now . Blessings to you all. Gaye, Ruth. Nancy. Marty and Mary K. Ellett.

Dear Acevedo Family,

I have always respected the Acevedo family, especially your dad. He married my husband and I on May 24,1969 at the Mexican Baptist Church. After my girls were born, I took them to be presented by him at our Brawley Church. He was a wonderful and wise man who influenced my walk with the Lord by his example. Your mother also had a very positive influence on me. I will cherish my memories of your family and feel we (the congregation) were extremely fortunate to have had you as our pastoral family. Through the years we exchanged Christmas cards and short notes to keep in touch. I will miss his card this coming Christmas but know that he is rejoicing in the heavenly company of our savior.

Fondly,

Polli Lucio Castaneda

Dear Acevedo Family:

We're deeply sorry for your loss.

I have only fond memories of Pastor Acevedo and his wife, Cassie. One thing that stands out is how they came and picked up Boni, my godfather, every single Sunday and Wednesday on their way to church. My godfather talked to us about this generosity often. I'm sure he wouldn't have been able to go to church as often as he did as he had no transportation. Another thing that especially stands out to me is the support that Pastor and Cassie showed me during my schooling. Both came to my 8th grade graduation; they compassionately hugged me, congratulated me and presented me with a small gift. My mother was too sick at the time to be there with me, but they were there and that meant alot to me. Their support has meant so much to me throughout the years. This is a true example of an everyday occurrence of this Mexican Baptist Church. The church was always open to everyone and Pastor Acevedo and his wife always welcomed everyone. As its leader, Pastor Acevedo, will always be remembered as a friend, as a sarrogate father, as a humble man and a truly loyal servant who loved to sing to the Lord. My family will always be grateful to them.

Family Acevedo, just know, that the Lord is in control; for "If His eyes are on the sparrow, His eyes are watching over You." Our prayers are with you today. God Bless You All. And to Pastor Acevedo: Congratulations, this is Your Graduation Day! Praise God!

Dear Sylvia, Rosalie, and Ray-Ray, My brothers and sisters remember Uncle Sylvester so lovingly well. I remember his smile, gentle hugs, and soothing deep voice. And I remember his loving and gentle way with his kids and his Precious Cassie. I know in my heart that he is with her right now! I will keep you in my prayers during this very sad time because I know that the days will be long and lonely in the beginning, but I am glad that you all know the promises of the Lord, and will be comforted in knowing that your Dad had a sincere and dear walk with Him all his life. God bless. Luisa Merino, Whittier, California
