Thomas A. Dutch 1925 - 2012

Thomas A. Dutch

Wednesday, January 02, 2013
Dear Mrs. Dutch and ten sons and daughters:
Mr. Dutch was a treasure of a man. He never had a bad word to say and was always positive and encouraging to us Evans Scholars. It is quite amazing that a man with 10 children would find time to advise a group of ruffians like us.
Mr. Dutch helped me personally in many ways. When he noticed that I was short of cash, he got me into ushering MSU hockey matches and basketball games and I benefitted immensely.
During my first year as a scholar, Mr. Dutch got me involved in a student leadership workshop and that may have been connected to his position as Director of Housing at that time. I recall his generosity when he invited me and Charlie Brown home for Thanksgiving dinner when the family had a home
on Grand River.
As an MSU Evans Scholar 1958-1962, I have only wonderful memories of Tom Dutch as a most special and wonderful man. Thank you for sharing him with us.
I am sure he will rest in God's Grace.

Â¥ours sincerely,
Don Shuster, Professor, University of Guam

Dear Nathalie and family. My sincere condolences on the passing of Tom. I have such fond memories of Tom, you and the children dating back to the 1960's, St Thomas Aquinas, and Michigan State University. He was a warm and endearing individual with an ever radiant smile. He will be truly missed.

To The Dutch Family -
Thank you for sharing Mr. Dutch with all of us, his adopted Evans Scholar family. He was a positive force as the first female caddies moved into the Louis Street House. I will never forget his kind, contagious smile and words of encouragement.

"Hero, Family Man, Leader" Mr. Tom Dutch did what all great Americans aspire to do...leave a legacy. Mr. Dutch shaped many lives and reformed mine. As a Spartan and an Evans Scholar, my deepest condolences to the Dutch Family." Richard A. Klaft (MSU 95')

How fortunate for me that I knew Tom from when I was very young to adulthood - what a wonderful, happy friend!
