Bill and I became friends and news colleagues when I returned to Arkansas from my own military service in the Air Force, 1972. I first wrote for the Ark. Democrat and, later, 12 years for the Gazette and three more for the Democrat-Gazette. While Bill was at KARN, we were in a sense friendly rivals covering the Capitol and courts for different media. But he was ever the consummate gentleman, caring of others and a totally dedicated and ethical news professional. Often, I later had occasion to cover state Highway Commission meetings and always found him as AHTD spokesman a reliable, consistently helpful news source. Many of my news colleagues felt the same way. Bill will be sorely missed. I offer my sincere sympathy to those fortunate enough to have counted him a close friend or beloved family member!

Col. Stanton was a wonderful person. I can't help but remember our daily morning breakfast. He became my mentor of sorts and gave me every opportunity to excel as an African American. I will always remember this outstanding man who looked beyond race
and gender.

Colonel Stanton was a great friend and mentor to all who knew him. He was the definition of our USAF Core Values. His Integrity, service before self, and dedication to family and friends were above reproach. Rest in peace for a job well done as you were a faithful servant to mankind. Prayers and love to all the family of a true Patriot and selfless man.

Mary Jo, you have my deepest condolences for your loss of Bill. Although, I only had the pleasure of meeting him once, I felt like I had known him for years. The good memories will sustain you through this tough time.
