William M. Stribling 1923 - 2014

William M. Stribling

February 04, 2014
Bill Stibling was superintendent at Mt. Vernon during desegregation and while building a unified campus in our town. He made a commitment to our Afro-American community that is still in effect even today. He managed the relocation of all schools to a new facility that still exists after 45 years. This is a sign of his foresight, determination, and love for all his students. I became reacquainted with Mr. Stibling at Shooks Chapel Church and Cemetery. He was so faithful to his family home that he also shared with my heritage. It is only fitting that he be lain to rest at such a Holy place. My condolences are with his beloved family including his sons Randy and Danny who are fine men from reports I have heard from their dad.

Mr. Stribling hired me as a first-year teacher in Frisco, Texas. I enjoyed working with him so very much and taught his two sons. He was an extremely kind, warm, and wonderful human being. I taught for 33 years in Frisco and was always filled with gratitude to Mr. Stribling for hiring me to be a first-year English teacher in Frisco.

I loved Mr Stribling because when he served as superintendent at Burleson in the 70's he was such a big part of our student body. I remember him hamming it up with pom poms at our pep rally ! I respected him so much. We are all better for having him in our lives. Love and prayers to the Stribling family. Lynette York (Class '79)

Mr. Stribling was a major influence on my life. He was a very special person!! I just hope I was half the person and school administrator he was.
