After working with kiddos in the CA Public School System for twenty years, I would always wonder where my former students were and what they were doing with their lives. Thanks to FaceBook, this has become a reality...keeping the connection alive!

But, what about OUR teachers? Do we ever wonder if they are still in the classroom or, maybe, if they have already passed away? There are those of us who might not even want to remember a particular teacher. Hmmmmm...I wonder why? And then, there were the teachers that were the best educators. They were the ones who loved children, loved "sharing" with them and they were the ones who made a difference in a child's life.

Although I haven't really thought of her in many, many years, the first mention of her name brought her back as though it were just yesterday. Mrs. Wilma Poe taught me shorthand and transcription at GHS 1963-1966. I still remember her beautiful handwriting. And, even though it's been nearly 50 yrs since I last saw her, I do think of her everytime I happen to tell someone that on my high school diploma, it reads "Stenography". I sure wish I lived closer. I would go to her services. My deepest condolences.

Mrs. Poe was such a caring and wonderful woman. She and Mr. Poe provided me with so many wonderful memories growing up. I enjoyed visiting them both during the weekends to learn how to make rag dolls, play the piano, crochet, and make gift bags from wrapping paper. More importantly, she taught me the importance of caring for others and the value of always continuing to learn new things.

My mother, Mary Fisher was one of Wilma's close friends. Mary passed away three years ago. My mom and Wilma did so many fun things together over the years here in Ventura. Mary always loved the many goodie bags Wilma would surprise her with. Both of their husbands preceded them and they helped support each other during those sad times. Wilma and Bob, Mary and Bud had many great adventures in travel, out for meals and playing cards etc.. Wilma and Bob came to our house on many occasions and always loved talking with us, our children and grandchildren. They always brought fun and love to our household. Wilma will be missed and added so much to my mother's life! Our family sends our condolences and we hope the good memories will help you through this time. Kathy and Don Brunner

thank you Mrs. Poe, you were a wonderful teacher to all of us, I was your student for shorthand and transcription all through high school. I learned so much from you. I will never forget how fast you could type and the rhythm of the keys. God bless, condolences to your family...Dorothy Vaughn S57
