Saul Varela Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 30, 2013.

Saul Varela, age 76, passed away on May 25, 2013 in West Covina, California.

He was born on July 28, 1936 in Miraflores, Mexico to Carmelo and Dolores Varela. He was orphaned as a small boy, along with his siblings; Abel, Jaime and Carmen.

He completed grade school and as a young man, served in the military for Mexico.

Saul arrived in this country in the early 1960's, finding work as a dishwasher in a small café in Boyle Heights. He settled in the Boyle Heights area of East Los Angeles, where he married and started his family. He moved his family to a Huntington Park, CA in 1977, then later to West Covina, CA in 1988.

He retired in the late 1990's as a machine operator for Johnson Controls.

Saul became a U.S. Citizen on October 13th, 1995.

He was first and foremost, a family man. He loved and adored his wife, children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces. He had a very special place in his heart for his sister, Carmen and would often keep in touch with her by phone. He loved his extended family as well and always found great joy and happiness when he was around them. Family get-togethers, birthdays, holidays and special occasions were always events that he looked forward to.

Although he did not play a musical instrument, he had a great passion for music; from the romantic boleros of the guitar trios to the passionate ballads of the Ranchera.

Saul was an active person and never liked to be idle. He always found a project to do around the house or something to be fixed. He was a soccer coach for several years and he bowled in the company bowling league. In the mid 80's, he found his passion for golf and continued to play well after he retired.

He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Maguire Council. He was active in many of the events and fundraisers and enjoyed working the snack bar during the Bingo nights.

Saul is survived by his wife Guadalupe, his loving children Victor, Martin and Dolores. His grandchildren Andrew, Martin, Matthew, Paulina, Catherine, Maxine, Tiffany, Thomas, Bianca and Samantha. Daughter-in-laws Maria and Yolanda. His brother Abel, sister Carmen and their families. His sister-in law, Ana, his nephew Manuel, nieces Rosanna, Mireya and their families.

I am sad that he is gone I waited too long to go see him again and I felt the urgency to go and that's why we should never do that,so now we get together in sorrow but "sorrow may last for a night but joy comes in the morning" Bible

To the Valera Family,
With heartfelt sympathy in your hour of sorrow. May the sorrow and loss you feel soon give way to warm memories because that's what Saul would have wanted. He was always all smiles and may those memories comfort you all.
With love from all of us,
David, Aunty Jane, Fatima, Tabitha and Farrah Safari.

I am heartbroken that he is gone; and I'm glad he was in my life. I have wonderful memories and all of them show his smile. I'll never forget him. Certain people touch your life, and he was certainly one of them. I know he was a very special person to a lot of people and always made us happy. He will be missed but never forgotten.
