Born April 1, 1933, in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late John Earl “Bub” Roach and Estella D. (Hovermale) Roach Messner.
On October 10, 1966, she married Edward Craddock. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1975. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles William Roach, Sr. and a sister, Phyllis Jean Tracy.
Helen is survived by her devoted companion and caregiver, Larry Lewis of Williamsburg, VA; daughter, Chris James (Pete); grandsons, David James (Shannon) and Scott James (Angela) of Newport News, VA; a beloved great granddaughter, Kayla James; brothers, Roy Roach (Jan), Roger Roach (Irma), Sandy Messner, and Danny Messner (Mina); sisters, Marlee Brown, Phoebe Leggett (Fred), Irene Stendal and Mary Riley (Mark); and many nieces and nephews. She loved Larry, her family, her dog Candy and country music.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff at Hospice House for their support and wonderful care she received.
Funeral services will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg, VA on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 1:00pm with Pastor Susie Webb officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park. For the convenience of family and friends, the funeral home will be opened on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
