Today I cried a tear,
for a man I didn't know.
He bravely served his country
In a place I'd never go...
He took a stand for liberty
Fighting for those who are oppressed
He wasn't looking for medals
Nor someone to impress.
But he gave the ultimate,
The all of all time alls...
This soldier I never knew
Answered the final call.
Home he will come now
After giving his very best.
And oh! the sadness over whelms me
As they lay this man to rest.
And I know that sitting somewhere
Is a mother engulfed in pain
But cry as she might while begging God
She'll never see her son again.
So today I cried a tear
for a man I did not know.
A man who bravely served his country
In a place I'll never go.
Written in the memory SSG Nick Fredsti KIA this date.

Dear Sgt. Fredsti,
Although I never met you in person, I know you are a fine young man. I work with your sister at Grossmont College. Words cannot express the sorrow of losing someone so young. As a fellow soldier, I wish to thank you for your service and your ultimate sacrifice. God bless you and those who love you.

My heart hurts for the family of this brave young man that died in honor but was way too young. What an amazing and dedicated soldier and man. I lost my daughter in a fatal car crash on June 11, 2012, she was only 25 years and was 5 days from walking with her graduating class at UCSD with honors. Instead of seeing her walk that day we buried her. I see that Sgt. Nicholas died just days after my daughter. What a horrific loss of our children that week of June.

“The meaning of a true solider”
about Nick Fredsti
By Nicole Farrar
A dedicated soldier was one way to describe Nick,
he was proud who he was and that was relevant,
We talk about the weather Nick talked about his fights,
He talked about his close calls and how he saved lives,
He stood proud to protect people like you and me,
To be what this country is and that is to be free,
He never took out time for himself and hardly ever went home,
In most of his spare time he would just sit home alone,
He never complained about not having a normal nine to five hour day,
Nick wouldn't forget about his job even after a long hard day,
to be a solider like Nick you just have to be born this way,
Nick was a solider most young boys only dream to be,
He was also a brother, son and friend only few people ever really ever got to know,
A piece of him will always be here at his temporary home,
With this said please Nick rest in peace,
your memories will live on but now your spirit can be free.

me and Nick-a-licks night out...

I have known Fredsti from the beginning of his Army career. We were "joes" together in the beginning and he was one of my squad leaders and I his platoon sergeant on his last deployment to Iraq. He pretended to be a scenic, but I always knew cared a lot for his men and unit. I know he and SSG Nixon (also a "joe" with us) are up there in warrior heaven cutting up and making fun of each other. Nick, I love you and I will ALWAYS miss you brother. Say hello to your grandmother for me...SFC Damian "CROW" Cromartie

Please accept my sincere sympathy. To die for others is noble. Yet we grieve.May this promise help to calm your mind and heart.(Isaiah 2:4) . . .And he will certainly render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore. . .

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms, SGT Nicholas C. Fredsti, U.S. Army. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Nick. And to Nick it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. Nick you gave the last full measure of devotion for what you believed in and fought for. No greater love and patriotism are shown than when a man lays down his life in service to his country. Nick, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,261 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Nick's family and loved ones.

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Nicholas will never be forgotten.
For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I'm home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I'm only a civilian
And I don't even know if it's allowed
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.
For those missing in action;
for those who didn't make it home.
I know you're in God's presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.
I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you .
I Salute You.
