As a beginning teacher in 1970, I couldn't have asked for a better principal to work for at Hale Junior High School. Dick was so welcoming and friendly, but more importantly, he was an inspirational instructional leader and manager. I worked for 8 principals during my 33 years of teaching in San Diego Unified and Dick ranks at the top of the list. Schools don't have principals like Dick anymore. One of a kind. Priceless and irreplaceable.
My sympathy and condolences to his family.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Jackson's passing. One of my fondest memories at Crawford was when he chose me as his dance partner during a rainy day gym class. I still remember "floating" around the dance floor. He was always a gentleman. Until we meet again. May he rest in peace.

Dick Jackson was a visionary and an innovator throughout his career with the San Diego Unified School District both as a teacher and as an administrator. As Assistant Superintendent, he streamlined core curriculum changes. He mentored scores of teachers and administrators. He was a perfectionist in every aspect of his life. He was a rare intellect and a leader in our educational community. He will be sorely missed by the numerous individuals who knew and respected him. His thinking and leadership style were always "outside of the box." I will deeply miss this kind and compassionate man.

I am very sorry to hear of Dick's passing. He was instrumental in getting me interested in mathematics, to the point that I majored in mathematics at San Diego State. He took the time to set up a special Statistics class, before the normal school day started, for interested stidents. I suspect he ran this class on his own time. He was an inspiration and will be missed by the many that he helped.

I first met Mr. Jackson (as I will always remember him) when I was in 6th grade, he came to visit the incoming 7th graders to Hale Junior High. He was a respected, kind and compassionate gentleman, someone I always considered a friend. We both laughed when he came to Crawford High School as the new principal, I had transferred to Crawford shortly before this myself and our paths once again crossed for the remainder of my school years. He heartily chuckled telling me that "I was doomed not to get rid of him!" Mr. Jackson, you will never be forgotten.

'Til we meet again...

So Sorry to hear of Mr. Jackson passing.
He was my neighbor and helped me make it through Crawford High.
I did spend a few times in his office but he was always kind and understanding.

Mr Jackson was my Advanced Algebra and Trig Teacher as well as our Student Council Adviser during my Junior & Senior Years at Crawford (1959-60) and one of the important people that influenced my life and future after transferring from Hoover High in the middle of my Junior Year. He will be greatly missed. He was always a real gentleman and dedicated to his students.

Dick was my Trig teacher at Crawford High and principal for two of the years I taught at Hale Junior High. We kept in touch over the years and fondly recalled the memories above. It was late in life that I learned he'd graduated from San Diego High. He may have kept that fact from me because he knew I never quite recovered from the 61-0 drubbing the Cavers administered in football my Sophomore year at Crawford.
