My family send love to you and yours, Bruce will be always in our hearts. Dona missis him a lot. Bryce praying for you too. Theresa, Dona, Ann.
We have known Bruce for better than 10yrs & always enjoyed our visits with him.He has been & will continue to be an inspiration to us by always having appreciation for life & enduring overwhelming situations despite his circumstances.Heaven has gained a Saint.
I have known Bruce and the entire Gunn family for many years. Bruce and I went to the same school and often times, we were in the same classes. His having E.B. was never a problem for me. I didn't look at him from the outside, I looked at him from the inside. We have something in common, we were both born with a physical problem. I was born with cerebral palsy, and it makes me walk unbalanced. I also was born with a deformity on the right side of my face. Here again, Bruce never backed away from me, and I never backed away from him. In 1983, I was a reporter for the Kokomo Trbune, as part of their teen page. I did a brief story on Bruce and his disease. I was very honored to have been able to do that, to get the word out about the disease. Bruce had always inspired me to achieve whatever I wanted in life. Of course, he achieved one thing that I have yet to conquer, and that was to be married. Bruce was a true inspiration and I will always think of him. His life may be over here on earth, but his life continues in Heaven. He is reunited with his mother now and I can just imagine the reunion they are having. Take care my friend and I know we'll see one another again, someday.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. May your memories bring you comfort.
I remember walking on south E street towards Anderson Street. I would pass by your house and hear the baby crying. My mom told me he had a skin condition and was in pain. My heart went out for him and his mother.
Betsey, Im so sorry to hear about Bruce. Ill be praying that the Lord will comfort you and your family at this time. Bruce was so blessed to have such a dedicated sister in you. Im thankful that he is no longer suffering, at the same time I know you will miss him greatly! You are in our prayers, Trina Graham and Family
When I was looking for a person to hire for data entry at Janus; I pushed to hire someone from our workshops. Bruce had been working at the Tipton workshop and I knew he was very good on the computer. I still remember his first day at the office. He was standing there in his dress clothes looking a bit timid. My first words to him were "get your butt in there and get to work". It was the beginning of a friendship I will cherish always. Bruce had lived a sheltered life but it didn't take long for Scott Keith and I to corrupt him! Bruce was a dedicated employee. He was always on time and willing to do whatever it took to get the job done. He wanted to move up in the company so he began taking night classes to improve his skills and eventually he was promoted to my executive assistant. He was instrumental in computerizing all of the client records at Janus and he was the point man with the software company. Bruce was an inspiration to all of the clients at Janus as they could see what he had achieved and it gave them hope. We had many conversations about EB and what it was and what Bruce had went through in his life. Since Bruce had not met with a specialist in 20 years at that point; I suggested he see if there were any new treatments or support groups now that we were in the computer age. Bruce was amazed at the information out there and he jumped right in. Finally Bruce began to meet others with EB. I think at that point he thought he was the only one. I was watching Bruce grow up right before my eyes. He took a bad situation and turned it into something positive! He has helped so many families and I know they are thankful. Bruce set goals for himself that others doubted he could achieve. He had dreams of buying his own home and living on his own. We checked into Habitat for Humanity and found out Bruce qualified. He had to work 500 volunteer hours, as all Habitat recipients do, and he did so while working 8 or more hours at his regular job. Bruce dreamed of finding someone to share his life with and he did. Unfortunately it didn't work out but he did not give up on love or the hope of finding love again. The first time Bruce attended Camp Discovery; I saw a different man when he returned home. He was so excited that a place like that existed and he got to experience many things he never would have been able too. God Bless those people that started that organization! He felt so privileged he got to be a counselor there. I can't talk about Bruce without mentioning Jeanette. Without her, Bruce wouldn't be the man he was. I'm sure they are in heaven catching up on all the gossip! Bruce I will miss you and will see you again in heaven.
I cannot say, and I will not say
That he is dead. He is just away.
With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand,
He has wandered into an unknown land.
And left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be since he lingers there.
And you--O you,who the wildest yearn
For the old-time step and the glad return--
Think of him faring on, as dear
In the love of there as the love of here;
Think of him still as the same, I say;
He is not dead--He is just away! (poem written by James Whitcomb Riley)
Bruce, I am so sorry to hear of your passing and will keep you and your family in my prayers. My nephew Nate passed last year at 5 weeks old of JEB-herlitz. Please give him a hig for me when you see him.
Bruce my man,if anyone on earth deserves heaven it is you. We shared many great times at Camp Discovery, whether it was changing dressings, playing practical jokes, tubing or just talking, your spirit will always be there everywhere I look. I learned so much from you over the years. We came a long way from Disney World. You were always a fighter and that is how I will best remember you, as one to never accept, NO or We Cant Do That for an answer. You would always find a way. Bryce and Cathy my deepest sympathy to you and your whole family.
Sleep in peace my brother.
Bruce was such a wonderful person. He did not let RDEB control his life. Bruce was very courageous and fought a long hard battle with EB. He was inspiration, confidant and encourager to our Chastity. I will never forget Bruce and what his advise and guidance meant to the McNiel Family.
