Dr. Lynch was my first microbiology professor. I had been planning to be a veterinarian, but after I took his course, I changed my mind and became a microbiologist. I am now the director of the Public Health Laboratory in Minnesota. Dr. Lynch was the inspiration and catalyst for my career. I have always remembered him fondly and with immense gratitude. I am saddened by his death, but am comforted by knowing that he had a long and productive life and a loving and supportive family.
Dr. Lynch was my mentor for my masters at NIU. He helped me get into the PhD program at Illinois. I still think of him often. He was an excellent mentor and now that I am a professor, I can say he had the patience of the highest level. He also had a great sense of humor, which is a rarity in this profession. My condolences and best wishes to his family.
