Gene and I served together in Korea so long ago. We became good friends. Gene with his cameras and I walked off into the back country, trying not to fall into the rice paddies, many times. He was my best man at our wedding. I remember the fantastic toast he gave at the reception. Everyone there was so impressed. During the next few years we went our separate ways only to reconnect about two years ago when he was looking up old acquaintances on the internet. We e-mailed back and forth, last time we wrote he mentioned his "numbers" were still good. Gene was a wonderful person and a good friend. Please accept our condolences, Martha and I have lost a friend....to me I will always remember "Wink"

Sandy and Brandon:
As one of the American Appraisal team of the 80's Gene was a good friend and colleague. Please accept my deepest sypathies
Sandy, Cris and I send our sympathy to you and Brandon. We just heard about Wink, and have fond memories of you both. We send our prayers and wish you the best, Cris and Alex Scott
Sandy and Brandon,
You are both in my prayers. I know this is a difficult time. Gene was a special man, devoted to the two of you and to his church. I so appreciated how diligently he served on the usher team. He was kind and considerate to WBC attenders and guests.
I had the privilege of meeting Gene while volunteering at Congressman Peter Roskam's campaign office (when I lived in IL). Gene always greeted everyone who entered with a kind smile and word. I'm sorry to hear of his Home-going, but know that he's enjoying celebrating with His Heavenly Father. Praying for the family that they will be comforted by God's love.
To Sandy and Brandon: May you feel God's love surround you at this time. We knew Gene from his volunteering as an usher for Wheaton Bible Church, but his life touched more people then we would ever know. Cherish your good memories and blessings. - Martha and Lance Lambert
Very sorry to hear that Gene has passed away. I attended both St Edmunds and Shady Side with Wink. I admired both his academic and athletic abilities. He was a stand out student at both academies. My thoughts and prayers are with your family..
Dear Sandy and Brandon,
May the loving comfort of our Heavenly Father be your portion during this time of sorrow. Gene loved his family and left a rich legacy of his love for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Our love, prayer and sympathy to you both,
Richard and Marilyn Petersen

Dear Sandy and Brandon,
Thank for taking such good care of Wink. It was sad to learn there is one less Batchelar in this world. Cari and I extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to you and Brandon. Please let me know what we can do for you guys in Pittsburgh. Cari is notifying Shady Side Academy of Wink's death. Much Love, David and Cari Batchelar
Dear Sandy and Brandon, it's very hard to believe we've lost our dear Wink. He was so much a part of our family and our lives and he was truly loved. What a fighter! Thank heavens for all those wonderful memories. With love and deepest sympathy, Nancy Bartholomew
