James J. Heiser, son of the late Edgar Willis Heiser and Ruby Jewel “Judy” Hinkle Heiser Harris, was born on March 22, 1941, in Hammond, Ind., and died on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at Heritage Nursing Center in Kennett at the age of 72.

He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church in Glennonville. He earned a B.S. degree in accounting from Indiana University and throughout his life worked in that field as well as computer programming, installation and repair. Mr. Heiser also operated a peach orchard for several years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and had served as member and president of the St. Teresa School Board.

On August 21, 1965, he was united in marriage to the former Lorraine Ann Rietman, who survives of the home in Campbell.

Also surviving are four children and theirs spouses, Loretta Jane “Janie” and Jeremy Cook of Bartlett, Tenn., Rebecca Jean and Bob Schatz of Kansas City, MO, Cathryn Jennifer and Frank McClelland of Lawrence, KS, and James William and Bridget Heiser of Campbell; seven grandchildren, Elissa Brooks, Kersten and Bethany Schatz, Ashlen Cook, Liam and Jonas Heiser and Joel McClelland; three step-grandchildren, Cory, Josh and Katie Cook; on brother and his wife, Tim and Peggy Heiser of North Carolina; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Heiser was preceded in death by his stepfather, Waldo Harris.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at Landess Funeral Home in Malden. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Glennonville with Father David Dohogne officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Landess Funeral Home of Malden is in charge of arrangements.
