I am so very sorry I missed the service, but I was in Maine and just returned today to this sad news. My thoughts are with you all. As you all know, Joe was very important to me. As I told him when we last met several years ago, he gave me a my first job as a lawyer as an act of kindness. Then he allowed me to carry his trial bag and learn from his outstanding example. He always treated me generously and gave me many important opportunities to develop as a trial lawyer. I have had a wonderful career because of him. I thanked him many times for this, including when I last saw him. I am sorry for his passing, but he lead a wonderful productive loving life. My condolences to you all.

We are so sorry for your loss. "Uncle" Joe was one of the kindest and most personable people I've ever met, and I am grateful to have known him while I lived in Houma. In fact I always was complimented when folks there learned my name and assumed I was his son. I truly regret we are so far away now, but know you are all in our prayers.
All my best

I regret that Peachy and I are not in the state this weekend. Joe and Debbie, you know of my long friendship and admiration for your father. Even though we didn't see one another often, and particularly these last past years, when we did bump into each other, it was as thought we had spoken every day. I have fond memories that go back to 1971 when I first met your Dad. We are all better people because of having had Joe, Sr. in our lives. Your Father always left an impression with those he encountered throughout his life; be it verbally, spiritually, politically or otherwise. My sincerest sympathies to all of your family.

To the Waitz Family: Back in the early 70's when I attended law school, Joe gave me a job in his law firm. Thus was born a relationship with Joe and his family that has continued to this day--a relationship that I value greatly. I'll never forget the trips to N.O. and to Baton Rouge that we made together--always "learning trips" as he taught me so much about the law as well as life itself. Over the course of the last 40 years, he was always there for me whenever I needed anything. Such a giving and caring individual. Mrs. Waitz and family, rest assured that I will always pray for the repose of Mr. Joe's soul, and for each of you that our Lord give you the strength to accept His will at this sad hour. As you comprehend this profound loss, let yourself cry knowing each tear is a note of love rising to the heavens....All my love, Zo
