I have fond memories of Mary Lou, particularly her smile, calm attitude and grace dealing with the academics surrounding her and Dan. As a PhD student at Purdue, I enjoyed her hospitality, and then interacting with her during her editorial work at SMJ. Her passion to the Strategic Management community was inspiring. My thoughts are with Dan and their daughters.
I will always remember Mary Lou's genuine friendliness throughout my career. From the first time I met her as a very new assistant professor she was a smiling presence at the SMS conferences and events and made me feel welcome. Mary Lou had the unique ability to make everyone feel comfortable and at ease. Her wonderfully pleasant attitude certainly made me smile every time I saw her. Mary Lou was one of a kind.
My thoughts are with you Dan.

I am honored that Mary Lou was my Aunt and Godmother. She shared so much interest, enthusiasm, support, and encouragement for both me and my husband and whatever adventure we were embarking upon. Russ and I will remember her with such fondness and admiration. Love and blessings to Uncle Dan and family.
I was fortunate to have gotten to know Mary Lou early in my career ... she had such grace, and provided a human touch to all my early interactions with SMJ. She will be greatly missed in the strategic management community.
My sincere condolences to Dan and the family. I remember when I received my first letter from SMJ from Mary Lou - how great that was. And I've had the opportunity of being at Purdue and getting to know her better - her warm smile and kinds words. She will be missed very much.

With love and condolences from the Santos Family! Aunt Mary Lou will be forever in our hearts.
Mary Lou's warmth made the SMS a family. For me, the opportunity to chat with her was always a highlight of the meetings, and the often-described image of manuscripts piled high on the Schendel kitchen table gave assurance that the SMJ was in caring hands. Mary Lou touched many of us in the strategy field, and we will miss her.
One of the nicest, sweetest, persons I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Never saw her without a smile on her face.

Being with her or just talking to Mary Lou was always uplifting. She will be greatly missed. We would like to express our condolences to Dan and the family.
Mary Lou was one of the nicest people I ever known. She was so gracious. She had a natural sense of empathy. She made a friend of almost everyone she met and she met many people. I met her about 34 years ago and immediately knew I wanted to be her friend. Since then I have always looked forward to seeing her. I came away from talking to her feeling better no matter how I felt before or how mundane or deep the conversation may have been. She had that effect. There were many she touched who were better for knowing her. She was a blessing to many.
Mary Lou was a warm and gracious woman. My condolences to Dan and the rest of her family. May your memories of her smile help to ease your pain.
So sorry to learn of Mary Lou's death. I didn't see her often but when we did see each other, the time was alway too short. We go back to Kingston where our kids went to school.

Mary Lou was the heart and soul of the SMJ and SMS ... she made everyone who connected with her feel privileged to be part of the SMS family.
MaryLou was the epitome of grace, consideration and kindness. She interacted with so many scholars in the field and many whose tenure cases were on the line. She was conscious of how her words could make someone's day better. Many often called her just for a kind voice and the sense of support. MaryLou was loved by many. I was fortunate to spend time with Dan and talked with MaryLou in person a few weeks ago. She will always remind me of devotion, strength and gentleness. She now rests with God. Csrolyn
