I just learned of Gibby's passing. He was such a huge influence on my life and development as a musician and teacher. Gibby trusted me with countless musical and career opportunities that defined my early life in arts administration and education. His knowledge of music, art, the humanities and his passion for challenging young people to discover the world is something I carry with me, as an educator, into my high school music classroom. Words can't thank you enough Gibby. You live on in my heart, my classroom and my students.

My condolences go out to Gibby's family, friends, colleagues, and students. I'm deeply saddened by the loss of a great musician, teacher, and friend. He taught me a lot about music and lead to me to believe I had the knowledge and passion to follow my dream to continue my education and become a musician. I miss him dearly and wish that he could have seen my college senior piano recital just days after his passing. He will forever be in my heart and prayers. Rest in paradise Gibby. <3

Dear Susan,

It was such a pleasure to be able to continue knowing Gibby after our time at NIU. I always admired his interest in and his enthusiasm for so many different performing arts. He was always interested in learning something more. And I was amazed at how much he was able to do these past few years in spite of all the problems. Both were inspiring. After one of his last posts I thought to myself wouldn't it be nice if I had a group to have breakfast with one day a month like Gibby.

My most heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of Gibby. I was a playmate of his when we lived on 51st & Damen. We would ride our bikes together to Western ave. Also his sister Carol taught me the piano for about a year & when Carol wasn't available Beverly would sub. When your dad would be sleeping we would go across the street to Paradise hall to practice where my mother Dolores Fasuga would waitress. The last I saw Gibby was when his band played at a wedding I attended. We chatted a bit & I realized he still had that sweet innocent smile of his that I remembered since childhood. I hope your memories of him will be some comfort to all of his family. With sympathy Kitty Diamond .....Fred &Dolores Fasuga's daughter.

To Susan, Carole, and Gibby's other family members whom I have not met: I send condolences to each of you in our common loss of a great friend, teacher, and musician. Gibby has always been a bright spot in my life since first meeting at an MTNA conference about 20 years ago. Subsequent annual conferences brought us together to share music. Once in the home of Gibby's sister, Carole, I overheard her say to him "Do you know what joy you bring to my life?" All of us who knew Gibby could ask the same question of him. We all will miss Gibby's knowledge, wisdom, and dedication to music and to those with whom he shared his gifts --students,faculty,family,friends. I am grateful to have been among those friends. Sincerely, Ruth Holmes

Dear Susan,

Gibby was one of our dearest friends.
Robert adored accompanying Gibby on the saxophone each and every holiday. Our weekend in Chicago at the holidays was always highlighted with the music they made together. We will hold our respect and love for him in our hearts for all the days of our lives. Thank you for loving him for all these years.
Though we celebrate his life and thank God for our friendship we are mourning for our friend who had to leave us all too soon. Love, Jane and Robert

Gibby had to have the biggest heart for music and those he taught music to. As a person who has loved learning, it was a joy to learn from such a talented and compassionate teacher. As a person who loved music, it was such an honor to know and learn from someone who was so passionate about what he loved.

Dear Gibby,
You were the kindest, most talented, most giving, most supportive and most fun person I've ever known. I can't believe you're gone - such a huge loss to all who knew you and the whole Waubonsee family. I loved when we talked peace, Shakespeare, and travel. You taught me The Global Village, introduced me to YES magazine, gave me a gorgeous Shakespeare print, secured tickets for many plays, encouraged me in everything. You were so bright but always very humble. My heart leaped when I saw you at the Peace Pole dedication! You'd be sick, then got to travel with your sister, but still wanted to be on campus teaching students and focusing on others. I love the memory of you playing your original composition for the WCC Vision statement celebration on the Auditorium stage. My deepest condolences to Susan and all your sisters and all who knew you. You were the best there is. I feel fortunate that I was able to know you.
