I have so many wonderful memories of OLL and Father Hotard. Christmas Eve mass was my favorite. I will hold you in my heart, always. Rest in Peace.
God speed on your next journey, Monsignor Hotart.

God gave my dear friend Howard the gift of being able to draw closer to Our Loving Father, all of those who had the privilege to meet or work with him. His words of counsel and example made an unforgetable impression on everone. May God grant him unending happiness in His Presence.
Fr Hotards masses were beautiful. You truly felt that you were in Gods presence when you attended his masses. His Christmas and Easter masses were his favorites and it showed. Paul and Gaye Lucker
YOU WAS ONE OF THE BEST BUT YOU ARE IN A GOOD PLACE NOW REST IN PEACE FATHER
I will miss Father Hotard, yet I am glad to see one of His servants receive the honor of sitting at His side.
Father was an awesome man and a true servant of God. I grew up around Father, as he was friends with my paternal grandparents. I remember many weekends at Father's house, playing with Johann the dachshund. After Gramps died in 1986, we did not see Father as much, but he made sure to stay in touch.
When Granny died in 2008, Father Hotard made sure to stop by St. Louis King of France to sign the guest book. I only wish I had had the opportunity to thanks him, to shake his hand.
My regret is that my son never had the chance to meet Father Hotard.
Rest in peace, Father. AMDG.
In our prayers

Joe and Shirley Noto
I was your first alterboy at St. Matthias. Thanks to Fr.Frank Lipps ,he tried to teach me latin, but you still let me serve.RIP my dear friend
In your presence, we all could feel your love and saintliness. You have left your imprint on all whose life you touched and we will all hold you in our hearts and smile in remembering your dry wit and we will FIND SOMEONE TO HELP! Go with God. We love you Father Hotard
Thank you for your beautiful celebration of mass, you are the reason I am not lost today! I will never forget you. RIP
A great man who helped mold all of my children . Taught all of us that we should Walk like Jesus, Talk like Jesus and Act like Jesus. He's greatly missed.
So many great memories of OLL and growing up in Slidell as a result of my friendship with Father Hotard. As an former alter boy I look back with pride and realize how unique and special that parish was because of him. His sermons always ended with a great thought or interesting question to reflect on and they rarely ran over 10 minutes which was one of his "rules" to keep peoples attention. Special incense at holiday services always added a uniqueness to the mass. I am grateful that I had an opportunity to live, grow and participate at Our Lady of Lourdes. I remember my dad telling us the reason we moved to Slidell was because of the great school and the great church with the wonderful service, it was really something. Fr. Hotard made a big impression on my mom and dad, and I think of them often as they were part of that very special American generation. He had a deep knowledge of history, religion, and how to relate to people & kids. He created a special community. I wish my son and daughter could have met him. Rest in peace.
Father Hotard, I remember such reverence to the Mass at OLL in Slidell. Christmas & Easter were especially beautiful! Thank you for your help in my time of need and your service to so many.. "Find someone who needs you."
You are now glorified with God.
We are grateful for the many years that Fr. Hotard served @ OLOL. The Christmas masses were always especially beautiful. His sermons were brief & very thought-provoking. We know he is enjoying his heavenly reward!
I will never forget the beautiful masses celebrated by Father at Christmas time at OLL. You will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace.
Words cannot express what you have meant to me and my family, especially my dear Mother, Mrs. Helen. You will be deeply missed.
Father Hotard will be greatly missed. He was a wonderful and caring person. As an alter boy under him a Sacred Heart in Lacombe, he greatly influenced my life as well as the lives of all he came in contact with. God Bless you.

Remembering Father Hotard when I was a student at St. Charles Borromeo so many years ago. Such a kind and gentle man....and very funny. He will be remembered as the face of a true Man of God.
Monsignor Hotard touched many lives. My parents and brothers were members of his parish in Slidell. Fr. Hotard was there for our entire family when our dad passed away. Rest in Peace...

Our entire family had such an appreciation for Father Hotard while he was pastor at Our Lady of Lourdes. He demonstrated such reverence, respect, and beauty in the act of worship. To this day we often talk of him and remember his impact on each of us.

It is with the greatest sadness that I bid farewell to Father Hotard. I cannot remember any other priest who demonstrated the breadth and depth of devotion and reverence to the Mass and the Holy Eucharist. Forever gone are those most beautiful and memorable Christmas and Easter masses at Our Lady of Lourdes which my wife, sons and I enjoyed for the 17 years before Father's retirement. Festina cum Deo, Monsignor.

He was a friend, a gentleman an exceptional priest. He will be greatly missed.

I remember sitting at his last mass when he reitired and when he said goodbye their were many people that shed tears including myself. I can't imagine another priest like father Hotard. How Blessed We All Were For Having Known This Humble Servant Of God! Today He Is In Paradise!
Fr. Hotard was a great friend and pastor to both of us and our children. He married our daughter with a most beautiful ceremony as only he was capable of doing. Bobbie served as his secretary for many years. He will truly be missed by all of our family. Father, may you rest is peace. Gratefully Bobbie & Gene Leckie, Alexandria, La.
Other than my biological father Monsignor Hotard had the most positive impact on my life. He baptized our kids, gave them first communion and confirmation. Serving on the altar with him was a true honor and privelege. I will miss him but I know I will see him again. Eternal rest grant unto him Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
"Father" was a special man. I can remember my years as an altar boy at OLL. He was funny and witty always telling jokes. He was highly educated and always volunteered great advice. He was well traveled and always brought us back a small gift from each country he visited. He was a man's man and believed in hard labor. He believed that everything should be done "right". He was an "old school" parent to all of us altarboys and when we misbehaved he would pop us on the head with an old wooden hanger without warning. :) He was a good man and a great role model and strong influence for so many young men. I know I was lucky to have such a great influence and role model growing up.
I can remember doing countless funerals with Father in the 90's. He would always laugh and tell me "You and I will both be in that box at some point." He would also mention that you could tell folks who truly touched others' lives by the amount of people who came to their funeral and the stories that they would tell. I'll be at the wake tonight and will certainly have plenty of funny stories to tell! RIP Father.
With deepest sympathy to the Hotard family during your time of grief...God is for you a refuge and strength, A help that is there to be found during difficult times...May God provide you with peace and comfort to endure the days ahead...(Psalm 62:8).
When I was in kindergarten I found out you were able to bless things. So I started bringing random things from my room like books, jewelry, and toys for you to bless after church all the time! You always just humored me and blessed all my stuff! Haha
You were a big part of my childhood. So sad to hear you are gone but so happy you live such a long, fulfilling life.
Thank you for all your many years of service for our Lord. I will always remember your saying the Mass in our beautiful church at Our Lady of Lourdes. May God hold you tight in his arms.
We will miss all of the interesting stories Msgr. Hotard shared with us. you were truly a gentle man! God bless you.
God has taken back one of his most faithful servants who taught us humility, devotion, and to find someone who needs us. He demonstrated faith, respectful devotion, and the ability to communicate powerful messages in five minutes or less. He left us with great memories of the most beautiful devotional services, the proper focus and respect for our Catholic tradition, and great family memories. R.I.P.
My dear friend, I will miss you always seeing you in your little truck going to and from abbey. You baptized my daughter, gave her first communion, and sold me my plot at the abbey. We came full circle together my friend. We would see each other often at the abbey and you would chuckle and say to me " glad to see your still above the ground" and we would both laugh!! Thank you for being in my life !
God blessed our lives with your love and leadership. We have such great memories of mass with Sam and Josh and all of Father Hotard's great alter boys, especially during Christmas and Easter.

How blessed we were to have Fr. Hotard as our pastor and friend at Our Lady of Lourdes. He was a source of quiet strength, wise advice and sincere caring. We recall how, at Christmas and Easter, he treated visitors to the baked goodies that Miss Helen made. And didn't he love nature! God bless you, Fr. Hotard, for all the good you have done.
