"If it's true, I will believe it."
Eriks raced into all of our lives,
With a twisted, crooked smile,
And a heart filled with fresh
And overwhelming integrity.
He loaded our lives
And multiple right turns.
Part of me thinks,
That he may not have needed any of us.
But all of me believes
That he cherished
All of us.
Each of us knew Eriks,
Yet, maybe none of us really knew Eriks
Collectively we have to guess.
"It it's true I will believe it."
The 1960's asked:
“What becomes of the broken hearted”?
The year 2013 asks,
What will we will do
With all our memories of Eriks?
Here is what I think we should do:
Be afraid of these memories.
Eriks gave us these memories
To share and preserve.
He gave them to us freely
To do with as we wish.
I wish to share these memories,
With anyone who will listen
And with anyone who needs to be lightened
"If it's true I will believe it."
Happiness has as many definitions
As there are people on this earth.
"Happiness is just an illusion."
"Happiness is a man who has never known happiness."
That happiness is the river of all of us,
Flowing through the life, spirit and memories
Of those who join us,
On this journey through life,
Creating the gifts of goodness
Eriks gave me
The wings that I needed,
To become a poet
To become a writer.
Here is what I wrote in 1985.
Eriks loved this, and said that I should have it published:
“I am the seed
Falling from the tree
Yet being the one
That grows in the vacant lot
Shading the fading farm house
That I watch
Eriks told me to submit this for publication.
And I did.
And it was accepted by the very first publishing house that I sent it to.
My thought to you today,
Is that Eriks was the seed,
That fell from the nearby tree
That was trampled upon
And that fell into the vacant lot
And that he indeed,
Shaded his family
And that family,
Will never rot away.
Eriks and this family of all of us,
Will live in my heart
And they will live in the collective Hearts
Of those he touched and created.
If I was responsible, for an inscription on Eriks' head stone, I would say this:
Eriks is the soft star that shines at night.
He is not here,
This is true, and you should believe it.
