My sincere condolences to Jeri, Brooke (whom I knew personally) and all of the rest of the family whom I knew about from many conversations that I had with George in his office and mine at JMU or across the hallway between our offices, which others often heard as well. I know of no one more devoted to their family than George was to his. Even though our views often differed on matters, he was always respectful during the discussions.
For a number of years, my office at JMU was across the hall from George's. Being that near George meant it was impossible not to be part of his conversations--many of which were actually between the two of us. He was as outgoing a person as I've ever met and I thoroughly enjoyed that time at JMU. I learned much about his family in that time--in particular how deeply he cared for all them. My sincerest sympathies to all.
My condolences to Jeri and the girls. I knew George at JMU, and I know he will be missed.
