I was saddened to hear about the passing of Gordie, and I wish to express my deepest sympathies. I have some great memories about our interactions, all which centered around Springbrook. I don't remember the exact year (1968?), but our families worked together to remodel the down stairs at the Brook, and the last time I was the bar (2010) the stained panel walls were still there – guess we did good work. The only time I ever caddied for someone other than myself was in 1968 for the eventual club champion. We got to the number 9 tee box and Gordie says “I've driven this hole before, not sure if I should try it now” and he looks at me, and I reply “I'd try it then”, Gordie pulls the driver, balls ends up just on the right side of the green, his response, “Good advice young Will.” Since I left DeWitt our paths didn't cross often, but the few times I was able to see and speak to him were special. Again, my prayers are with you, and I am honored to have known him!

Marlene, Lynn, and Leah, I was so sorry to read of Gordon's death in the Observer this week... I remember him as a good dad, husband, and community leader. And such pleasant memories I have of your family! Babysitting for Lynn and Leah and sometimes Liz (Ruman) Mathis -- baking cookies, doing crafts, playing games; witnessing first hand how Marlene and Gordon loved each other and enjoyed going out together; getting to see your home at Springbrook before, during, and after it was renovated; and having Gordon slip me an extra dollar when he would drop me off from babysitting -- a big deal when the going hourly babysitting rate was fifty cents! I still have a creamery pitcher from your family creamery... Blessings to all of you as you reinvent your lives without your beloved husband and dad... Love, Becky (Wieck) Curtis
