He was the best of friends to me, and so much more. I will miss his loyalty, love, kindness, compassion and joy. I was planning a visit to see him this spring. I'm sad that I didn't have time to tell him. Angie, Vic, Mark.. He was a good, good man.

Jim and his family grew up down the street from our family. We all became life-long friends. His sister, Angie, was and always will be my best friend. Jim always had a great outlook on life and never said an unkind word about anyone. His spirit will live in on his family. He made the world a better place. Rest in peace, my friend. Denise Moskowitz

Jim was a neighbor and great friend and help to us down by the creek. He was always down the hill to see our family when we came to our cabin for the weekend. He was there to visit us when my friends came to hunt and have a good time. He was there to help when things needed fixing and to have supper when we were grilling. My kids and grandkids miss coming down to the HobbitHouse and seeing Jim and our other neighbors. He was a good man and will be missed by all in the hills by the Raccoon Creek.

Jimbo, our dear friend and neighbor:

Jim was a not only our neighbor and friend, but we felt like he was part of our family. From our first footsteps on the “Ridge” together after Linda and I were married twenty years ago, to the birth and raising of our children Joshua and Ashley. Jim has been a big part of our life and has always been there for our family. He was a great guy who enjoyed life, always had a great attitude and was quick to remind us of always staying positive and tomorrow was another day. I can't remember ever hearing Jim complain about anything (other than how frequently our road was flooded and had to go the long way...we all complained about that). Jim always had time for us whether it was a hockey game in the yard during a snow, the many whiffle ball games in his backyard and Jeep rides for the kids on the “bottom ground”. He cared deeply about the McCarthy family and was very proud of the family and shared often and proudly what his nieces and nephews and their families were doing. He was always willing and ready to help someone that needed a hand. Not just when he was asked, but he was often reaching out to someone that needed help with electrical work or just about anything where someone needed some help. Jim touched many lives and we were blessed to have him as a neighbor and friend and will miss him greatly. Our family and the “Ridge” won't be the same without him, but the memories of his friendship and his legacy of what a great neighbor is will never be forgotten and will always be with us. Thanks for caring for us and being part of our lives. We loved you so much and are so glad God brought you into our lives. God bless the McCarthy family and Jim's many friends.
