Susan and family,
We are so very shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Lenny. During our brief time working together I recognized him as a kind, knowledgeable and hard working coach. Most importantly I knew Lenny as a friend. We will keep you always in our prayers.
With wisdom, constancy, and simplicity, “Coach Cruz” filled hours with Catholic athletes on the playing fields, and returned for CYSL play Saturdays at Catholic High.
He had faith in all ages and abilities, especially those just starting their athletic journeys.
If a player was asked after practice if he needed to phone for a parent, or was waiting longer for a ride, the response was easy—“ It's o.k.,--Coach Cruz is here.”
And so he was. But now , he is not just ‘here'—but everywhere as in memory we keep him close
and all his family that was his treasure. Blessings and Peace,
-Mrs. Judy Kaczor
Although we knew each other when we were undergrads at UF, it wasn't until my return to UF as a grad student did our friendship blossom. There were many nights when I would leave the chemistry labs to visit Lenny at Joe's Pizza. He would let me in the kitchen and we would talk about any number of things. We played golf together and had each other over for dinner on countless occasions. We even watched him play Jai-Alai when he was into that.
Lenny had the unique ability to brighten up any room. You could always count on him for a good laugh – whether at his expense or someone elses.
A lot of friends will say things like “I'll be there whenever you need me.” Everyone who knew Lenny knew that he was one of only a few people who would actually carry out those sayings.
I can't express my sorrow – I will miss him deeply.
Please accept our deepest sympathy.

There will be a big shoes to fill at Catholic High with Lenny's passing. He was a mentor to the students, a friend to his fellow coaches and CHS faculty, and he kept the CYSL strong. It's hard to believe God needed him more than us, but some things are not understandable. I'll miss seeing his smiling face.
