Allen Warren Meier, 73, resident of Rule, Texas, passed away early Sunday morning, November 3, 2013 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Rule with Rev. Monty Barnett and Rev. Robert Stone officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the services at Rochester Cemetery in Rochester under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Homes. Visitation is planned for Tuesday evening, November 5 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home in Rule located at 600 Robins Avenue.

One of four children, Allen Warren Meier was born July 26, 1940 to Vela Bell (Simmons) and Otto William Meier. He married Jean Turner in Abilene on June 25, 1960. He and Jean made their home in Old Glory, Sagerton, and recently, Rule. Allen served for many years as the Sagerton Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief, earned Sagerton Citizen of the Year in 1986, and supported Callahan county 4-H in the shooting sports division. Allen also enjoyed supporting the youth of the Sagerton Community in numerous ways. He was a member of Sagerton Methodist Church.

Allen owned and operated Allen’s Small Engine and Lawnmower Service in Rule and he was known to countless as a true gentleman. He will be missed be many in the Rule and surrounding area.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Vela Meier; his wife of 48 years, Barbara Jean Meier; a sister, Eunice Koehler; and his brother, Luther Meier.

Warren is survived by his son, Kevin Meier of Clyde, Texas; 3 grandchildren, Drucilla Meier, of Kerrville, Texas; Will Meier and Jess Meier, both of Clyde; the children’s mother, Mendy Meier of Clyde; and sister, Beunice Vahlenkamp of Stamford.

Serving as pallbearers for Mr. Meier are Jay Beakley, Jimmy New, Roy Bell, Kraig Kupatt, Larry Lefevre, and David Pitzer. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Alexander, Melvin Sharp, Ray Farrell, Glendell Williams, and David Miller. Junior pallbearers are his grandchildren, Will and Jess Meier.

If desired, memorials can be given in Allen’s name to Sagerton Volunteer Fire Department; Fairview Cemetery in Sagerton; or Rochester Cemetery in Rochester.
