Remembering Bryan today, and always. Ill never forget his playful spirit, his beautiful smile, and his delight at being surrounded by all us girls at Windsongsmart boy he was, LOL! Ill always remember the plucky child kicking Star pony around the ring at the shows...I know he and so many fur babies eagerly greeted him and welcomed him into the Kingdom at Rainbow Bridge! I saw him just a few short weeks before he was taken from this world, at the horse show where he came to visit all of us while he was home on leave. Im so glad I was there that day and got the opportunity to chat with him, encourage him in his service (my sister was serving in the Army as well, and did her own tour in Iraq back then...she didnt really know him, but please know that nevertheless; every day now that she lives, she lives it in honor and love for those like Bryan, who did not make it back home alive). Attending Bryans funeral and burial was one of the toughest things. It broke my heart into a million pieces to see your profound grief, dearest Pam. I wanted to give you a hug then, but we had to leave before I got the chance. Please know that I still think of you and Bryan often, and I pray that Jesus has brought comfort to your heart in these ensuing years. May you always feel his spirit there with you, because he IS NEAR; as close as he can possibly be, and eagerly awaiting the day he can greet you at last in our heavenly home. May that hope bring you comfort and peace until that day. Hugs and love from afar...I have not forgotten; and I never will!❤

It has been almost 10 years since I road Shotgun with you as my driver. I miss you bud. Not a day goes by that I don't think about you. I have your Holga camera tattooed on my arm as a reminder. It wasn't for nothing. We accomplished a lot of great things for those people, from schools built to making their world a bit safer. I cherish your time immeasurably.

I new Bryan growing up from our time wrestling for team viper to highschool (he was 2 years ahead of me)...he died when i was in basic training and shortly after i arrived to iraq, never being able to attend his funeral because i was in basic. When i was in iraq i saw his picture on this rememberance memorial and it was pretty surreal to see him and know that he gave the ultimate sacrifice. There was a plaque i took care of for that whole year that displayed his name and all the other fallen for that unit for that year. Not to be bias, i spent just a little bit more time, polishing his name tag. He was an awesome guy, great wrestler (he had these vice grips for hands) I feel proud to be carrying on and representing battle creek for the both of us and just saying that i knew this hero. Rest in peace bro. To my brothers who have fallen before me, i will walk with you again.

I came across Bryan's obituary today ironically while doing some animal searching on the computer. I never knew Bryan but just knowing he had such a passion for animals made an instant connection as I share this same love. Please know my sympathies are with Bryan's entire family as I know he must have been a remarkable young man. He has made an impact on so many individuals who never had the privilege to meet him. I will keep Bryan in my prayers each night. -Jenny

I discovered this website today as I was putting together a biography and photos for a tribute my 4th grade students are doing for our war heroes. Bryan was a close family friend and we still grieve his loss everyday. As I read all the entries in this guestbook, I was reminded, once again, the impact his life and death had on so many people; friends and strangers alike. My heart was warmed by the love that spilled from the words of the people whose lives he touched. Tears spilled from my eyes once again as I read all the touching poems and prayers. I know that where ever Bryan is, he is looking down on all of us with a smile and a lifted heart. Thank you to everyone for your kind words and continued Prayers. “We love you, Bryan!”

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To the family and parents of Bryan I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

Ms. Sikora,
I have never met you or your son, however, I felt his death was like that of my own son. I am deeply sorry for your loss.
Friday, Sept. 12th I was attending the Lakeview Spartan Football game. I watched you come in, escorted by a Captain and a Soilder. I watched your face and tried to imagine what you must be feeling.
As the tribute to your very brave son was read I got chills. As the Star Spangle Banner played I cried thinking of our loss of yet another young soilder. Someone who was protecting us, who left his family and dreams to protect us. I also could not help but think how alone you must feel. I know how deep the bond is between a mother and her son. I would be lost without mine.
I wanted to approach you and hug you and tell you how sorry I was for your loss. I know I would welcome anyone approaching me. However, I made the choice to pray silently for you and vowed that I would keep you close to my heart Monday and the days that follow.
Please take care of yourself. You are the proud mother of a great hero who will never be forgotten.
God Bless you!

I only had the honor of meeting Bryan twice, both times I was struck by his good humor and gentle nature. I was introduced to him as a "friend" of some of my friends, but he struck me as the kind of guy that welcomed all into his circle. I was shocked to hear of his passing. The world was made a better place because of his service, but will surely be lacking due to his absence.
To his family and friends I pass on my deepest sympathies.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, ""I welcome you.""
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......""My day was not in vain.""
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Bryan was my friend, I adored his smile, his creativeness and his bravery to join the army and fight for our rights as americans, so many people have died but for some reason I expected him to come home and go out for a drink with me, you dont expect something like this to happen so close to you, Bryan will be forever missed and loved by so many and my heart poors out to his mother and family, I pray that they will find a way to cope with this great loss of a wonderful man, son and soldier. We love you Bryan and for you I will drink my first Guiness. YOU MADE US PROUD!!!!!

Pam,
I know words are meaningless and do little to ease the pain of losing Bryan. Every time I look at my own son I can not imagine losing him for good. Even though our family did not know Bryan, we did know how much he meant to you. Every night when I tuck my son into his bunk bed, the same bunk bed that Bryan slept in for years, I think of you and Bryan.
Please know that you are constantly in my families thoughts and prayers.

Pam,
I can't even imagine what you must be going through. I just keep thinking of all the "Bryan stories" you shared with us at work over the years. What a great character he was. We're not supposed to have to deal with our children's death- it's not fair or natural. Bryan gave the ultimate sacrifice and for that he will forever be a hero. Thank you for sharing him for 22 years. God Bless you and your family.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Thank you for raising a son that thought enough about others, our country and our freedom, that he gave the ultimate sacrifice for all of us. He sounded like a wonderful young man. Myself, my husband and my children thank you.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to PFC Bryan R. Thomas our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Bryan. And to Bryan it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Bryan, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Bryan’s family and loved ones.

Please know how Deeply Sorry I am, to learn of the loss of
Pfc. Bryan R. Thomas.
As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly and having
lost a brother to war...
I am aware of the deep and devastating pain that you are experiencing.
The overwhelming heartache, that seems to surface through our shock, as the time passes.
Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.
May the memories of your Brave Young Soldier, remain in your heart always and give you strength through the difficult days ahead, and may Bryan Rest Safely now, in the Loving Care of God and know that he Will Never Be Forgotten.
I pray that the Peace of God will be with the Thomas family.
I am the sister, of such a young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.
