Mary Hackney Obituary

Mary Pearl Hackney of Beaumont, Texas, joined the Lord Jesus on Thursday, April 14, 2011, at the age of 82. She was born to the late Willie and Rensie Clemmons Perry, on February 3, 1929, in Alto, Texas. Her mother later married Matthew Mitchell, making Mary the oldest, to a total of twelve sisters and brothers. Mary spent her early years in Alto, Texas, and later moved to Beaumont, Texas, where she worked and raised her five beautiful children. She will be remembered for her outgoing spirit, down to earth personality, kindness and humbleness that would light up any room she entered. Mary never met a stranger, she had a heart for giving, and a passion for cooking, no one left her home hungry.. She loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and was a devoted and faithful member of Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church. Mary's love and memories will remain in the hearts of her surviving two brothers, Robert and Ellis Mitchell and two sisters, Etta McKnight (Truman) and Odessa Buckingham (Nathaniel). She is also survived by five children, Georgia Womack (Douglas), Rev. Kenneth Hackney (Gwendolyn), Terry Hackney (Shalonda), James Neal Hackney, and Denise Foster (Charles). Big Mama, as she was affectionately known, was the proud grandmother to her nineteen grandchildren, and thirty-two great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Viewing for family and friends will be held Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church, 3755 Fannett Road, Beaumont, Texas 77705, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by the Funeral Services starting at 1:00 p.m., at Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church. The burial will be at Magnolia Cemetery.
