Doris Huwer Obituary
Doris Bertha Huwer, nee Volkmann,86,of Millstadt, Ill., born March 30, 1924, in Millstadt Township, Ill., passed away Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at the Columbia Convalescent Center in Columbia, Ill.
Doris was a home maker and had worked at the Millstadt Creamery. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Millstadt, Ill., and she had taught Sunday School at Trinity for 26 years. She was a member of the St. Clair County Home Extension for 60 years, and she was a former member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 502 in Millstadt and she was a former member of the Millstadt Sister Cities.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Fred Huwer; her parents, John and Hilda , nee Werner, Volkmann, and her sister, Pearl Osick.
Surviving are her two sons: Robert (Angie) Huwer of Millstadt, Ill., and Dale (JoElla) Huwer of Millstadt, Ill.; her grandchildren, Susanne Davis, Stephanie Bartels, Doug Huwer, Sherri Huwer and Rachel Huwer; her great-grandchildren, Kate and Julia Davis, Lauren and Hannah Bartels, Marley Huwer, Alex, Lucas and Cai Raimond; her sister, Betty Kreher of Millstadt, Ill.; her nephew, John Kreher; and her niece, Krista Desiderio. She is also survived by other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Millstadt, Ill., or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at Strauss-Leesman Funeral Home in Millstadt, Ill., and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Millstadt, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Millstadt, Ill., with the Rev. Michael Kumm, officiating. Burial will be in Mount Evergreen Cemetery in Millstadt, Ill.

Doris and I were in a dulcimer club in Bellelville many years ago. She really enjoyed playing and being with friends. Doris was a lot of fun and she will be missed.

Dale, Joella and Rachel, we're so sorry for your loss. Doris was the the kindest neighbor you could have. Summers were special when our kids were growing up, she never was never too busy to share time with all of the kids. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I'm very sorry for the Huwer Family's loss. Although I didn't know Mrs. Huwer, she certainly sounded like a wonderful Grandmother and Mother. I know she will be missed by all that knew her.

Mrs. Huwer was a wonderful person, and she will be missed!! I haven't seen her in several years, but I remember her from my father (Ray Bense) and grandparents (Fred and Lucinda Bense).
May you know that she is with the Heavenly Father, above, watching over you each and every day.

Mrs. Huwer was the TRUE "Miss Millstadt"!! Our town will never be the same without her. She touched every part of Millstadt and for those of us who grew up here she will forever be a part of ALL of our childhood memories. Thank you Mrs. Huwer for all you have done and for always being around. You will be missed!!!

DALE, JO ELLA, AND RACHEL, DORIS WAS A UNIQUE LADY. LAURA HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF HAVING 2 EXTRA GRANDMAS-GRANDMA POSTON AND GRANDMA HUWER. GRANDMA HUWER NEVER FAILED TO TAKE RACHEL AND LAURA TO THE COUNTY FAIR. SHE ALSO BAKED WITH THEM AND SAW THAT THEY WENT TO THE TRINITY SUMMER VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL. SHE WILL BE MISSED. AND I KNOW THAT SHE WILL BE VERY MUCH PRESENT IN SPIRIT AT RACHEL'S WEDDING. SANDY AND DON STEPPIG
