RODNEY DAVID BLACKERBY

BLACKERBY, RODNEY DAVID, age 44, of Jasper, passed away May 21, 2011. He was a member of New Canaan Baptist Church. A Graduate of UAB, he later received his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from UNA. He was involved in the creation of the George Mitnick Boot Camp and served as Administrator. He later served as Chief Juvenile Probation Officer in Walker County and was very active in numerous Community Outreach programs. He was preceded in death by his mother, Brenda Blackerby; grandparents, G. H. and Ida Mae Blackerby and Buford and Louise Watson; and father-in-law, Alton Meggs. He is survived by his wife, Leigh Ann Blackerby of Jasper; son, Corey Blackerby of Jasper; granddaughter, Kyleigh Marie of Jasper; father, Rodney Blackerby of Jasper; sisters, Sherri Sparks of Jasper, Lisa Wells and husband Jim of Jasper, and Nita Sherer and husband Matt of Tallahassee, FL; mother-in-law, Janie Meggs of Jasper; host of nieces and nephews, special friends and family; aunts, Betty Scroggins of Bessemer, Debra Grammer and husband Terry of Athens, and Glenda Smith and husband Alan of Bessemer; and uncle, Conrad Blackerby and Barbara of California. Funeral services will be at Kilgore-Green Chapel on Tuesday, May 24th at 3:00 PM with burial in Oakhill Cemetery. Bill Martin and John Pinion officiating.
