Greg Reimer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 28 to Sep. 1, 2011.
REIMER, Greg
December 31, 1964 - August 24, 2011
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and tragic loss of Greg Reimer, a dad, husband, son, brother, uncle and friend to many. He leaves to mourn the love of his life, Carolyn, and his two precious children, Katie (12) and Will (10). He was our hero. He collapsed while playing hockey, the sport that he loved the most.
Thank you to all the players, the doctors on the team and the emergency personnel who tried so diligently to save his life. Thank you also to the emergency room doctors, to Dave and Julie Crawford, to Jill and Jeff Bennett and to Dr. Paul and Jackie Kurkjian for all of their efforts and support.
Greg was born in Calgary in 1964. His family moved to Edmonton in 1973 where he grew up. He completed his Business Degree, graduating from the University of Alberta in 1987. He worked in the pharmaceutical industry throughout his career, most recently with Amgen Canada.
Carolyn and Greg were married October 2nd, 1993 on a glorious fall day. They lived in Edmonton, where Katie and Will were both born and moved to Kelowna in 2004. When recently asked by the kids, where he would like to live if he could live anywhere in the world, his quick reply was in Kelowna, in a house on the lake. Greg was a family man first and foremost. He was a dad who built the hockey rink in the backyard. He coached Katie in soccer and Will in soccer and hockey. He taught them both how to golf and to ski. He instilled his love of music and photography into Katie and his love of sports into Will.
He was a man who loved life. He ran, biked, paddled, skied, hiked, golfed and played hockey and poker with the boys. He had a deep appreciation of nature and the outdoors. One of his happiest places was Jasper National Park playing golf with his family at the JPL. Greg was a wonderful cook and host who appreciated a fine bottle of red wine shared with friends and family. He was a self- taught guitar player, photographer and avid reader. The nature of this man was one of optimism, good humour, gentleness and kindness.
He also leaves to mourn his parents, Gladys and Don Reimer and his sisters - Terice (Keith), Diane (Curt) and Della (Alan). He leaves his in-laws, Madeleine and Dave Crawford, brother-in-law Dave (Julie), sisters-in-law Laura (Brian) and Cathy (Dale). He was a favourite Uncle to his fourteen nieces and nephews.
The circle of all who knew and loved Greg is large. He will be greatly and forever missed.
There will be an opportunity to pay respects to Greg and visit with the family at an informal gathering Friday, September 2nd from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Connelly-McKinley Funeral Home, 10011 - 114th Street, Edmonton, AB. The Funeral Service will take place in Edmonton on Saturday, September 3rd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Parish at 210 Haddow Close. In lieu of flowers, please do a kind deed for someone you love.

I remember my cousin Greg as a child, always smiling his big smile, sparkling eyes, easy laughter, curly black hair, always bringing a sense of light, joy and positive energy with him. The world`s a better place because of him and I am thankful to have known him. Heartfelt condolences to his family.

Marcus and I were so sorry to hear of your tragic loss. Greg was an easy going great person and Marcus particulary feels so sad for Will and we all feel sadness for your whole family. As time passes your great memories of him will abate your grief. He was a shining example of humanity.

The times that I spent with Greg always left me with one thought – “what a great guy”. He was constantly smiling, laughing and enjoying the moment. His love of Carolyn, his family and friends was loud and clear. Greg had an enormously positive influence in many people's lives. We were all a little happier when he was in the room and very fortunate to be able to call him a friend. Greg will truly be missed but the wonderful impact he made on all of us will live on. Thanks Greg.
