David BISHOP Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Aug. 14, 2010.

BISHOP, David Leslie August 11, 1924 - August 10, 2010 We are deeply saddened to announce that Dave died the day before his 86th birthday, after a brief illness. Born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan to Arthur and Sylvia Bishop, Dave spent most of his adult life in West Vancouver, where he enjoyed the view and excellent ham radio reception from our mountain side home. A professional engineer, Dave owned his own construction company for many years, and in retirement never stopped building or fixing something. Woodworking was his longtime hobby, from furniture making to intarsia carvings. A ham radio operator from the age of 12, as VE7PO he formed friendships around the world. Dave was an excellent bridge player, and was always ready for a game of cribbage. He kept his sharp mind and keen sense of humour until the day he passed away. Dave married Dorinne Chater in 1949 and enjoyed 61 years of marriage to the women he adored. He is survived by Dorinne and their daughters Cheryl, Brenda (David) and Karen (Tim). He was predeceased by his son Craig. He deeply loved his family, including his sons-in-law, and grandchildren Jennifer, Graham, Taylor and Kyle. He had many friends and was grateful for having such a fulfilling and happy life. At Dave's request there will be no funeral service. A memorial reception will be held at 3:00pm on Monday, August 23, at West Royal Towers, main floor, 328 Taylor Way, West Vancouver. We will miss you every day and always, Dad

The unfortunate thing about living so far apart is not being able to be there at times like these. My thoughts are with you all on this day of remembrance. Uncle Dave will be sorely missed but always remembered with love and affection.

Happy days

On behalf of Joyce & Arnold and the Murray family in Ottawa, I want to extend our sympathy for the sudden passing of Uncle Dave. He will be greatly missed by all. Although we haven't seen each other often during the past few years we always enjoyed his email correspondence about activities in the Bishop family.

Dear Mrs Bishop, Cheryl, Brenda, Karen and families,
I was saddened to learn the news about Mr. Bishop. He was such a kind gentleman. I very much enjoyed our yearly visits at Yellowpoint as he was such an interesting person to talk with. Mr. Bishop was such a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend and I know will be greatly missed by all. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult journey.

I never spent time with my Uncle Dave without learning something new and stretching my mind. And of course, laughing a lot. I will miss his joie de vivre and think of him often.
My thoughts are with you, Doe and cousins.
Love, Carole

Mr. B was like a father to me. Always ready with a hug and a smile. And always ready to loan the latest good book in his collection. I will deeply miss his company, pictures, jokes, and crib games as well as our shared birthday. Thank you Dave for including me in your life.
My thoughts and sympathy to the entire Bishop clan during these sorrowful days.
With love, Nony

To the Clan,
Our hearts are with you all, we are so very sorry for your loss of Dave. We, do go back a very long way, apparently over fifty years, but who is counting! I remember the grind up to St. Giles, ah, thank goodness I could drive to Gilston!
Tom and my thoughts are with you all...

Much love
