Hello,
We wanted you to know that we will be honoring and remembering your loved one this holiday season. We are sending Care Packages to our deployed troops in his name. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Richard G. Cliff Jr. US Army Captain.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and many others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

I am so sorry for the loss of your soldier. I, too, lost my soldier SPC Michael A Hook 8/22/07. I was 8 1/2 months pregnant with our first son, so I know the pain that you're feeling. Know that your soldier will watch over your son and your son will see his daddy in his dreams. I show our son pictures of his father all the time and now when he sees pictures, he'll say "dada."
It's so hard to understand why God would do this, but when I'm feeling sad, I always remind myself that God needed a hero and that's why he chose our soldiers.
I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. I can't tell you that the days will get easier, b/c they don't, but hopefully someday when you think of your soldier, the memories will bring a smile to your face rather than a tear to your eye. God Bless.

Richard, I just wanted to say thank you for your brave and honorable service to a grateful nation, a nation in mourning for our fallen hero’s. You like so many other sailors and soldiers chose to serve our nation when needed most and with your life you protected the very core of what America stands for. My nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward also made that sacrifice on 5/6/2008 when he was killed in action in Iraq. As I mourn for my nephew I mourn for you and so many other brave soldiers and know that you all will forever be in my thoughts and prayers, we as a nation will never forget you. I stand tall and salute you Richard and from the bottom of my heart I thank you for the nights we at home were able to sleep without fear and know that we are safe because you and your fellow soldiers stood watch. To the Cliff family, words cannot express the pain we now share, but our families will forever have a bond and we will be thinking of Richard and your family and will keep you in our thoughts & prayers. Please accept my heart felt condolences and my prayer that god help you cope with this tragic loss and may the memories of your HERO carry you through each day. From one Gold Star family to another!

Dear family of Capt. Richard G. Cliff Jr., I am so sorry for the loss of your hero. He was a hero in many ways to many people. He was helping to maintain our freedoms and helping to bring freedoms to those that have never known freedom before. I send many packages to contacts listed at AnySoldier.com. Your Richard, being a volunteer contact for Any Soldier.com, was an angel to many in the field. He cared enough for his unit to help pass out mail to those who maybe did not receive any or as much mail as others. Helping them to know that they were supported, cared for and prayed for by us at home in the USA. What a true hero. Freedom isn’t free.
Thank you Capt. Richard G. Cliff Jr.. We miss you greatly.
May God’s Holy Spirit grant your family comfort as they progress through grieving for the loss of their very special hero.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Capt. Richard Cliff our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Richard. And to Richard it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Richard, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Richard’s family and loved ones.

It was an Honor and a Priviledge to stand in Honor of a true American Patriot and Hero, CPT Richard G. Cliff, Jr. Thank you all so much for inviting us to his final formation.
CPT Cliff was a four time volunteer, Army, Airborne, Ranger, Special Forces, and that says volumes for what kind of man and leader he was.
After talking with his fellow soldiers and hearing their stories about CPT Cliff, and seeing their respect and love for him, there is no doubt he left a huge impact and legacy from his words and deeds.
I know he died doing what he loved, and what he was trained and destined to do; he affected a lot of people in a very positive manner and made a big difference in this world. We mourn his loss.
I pray that God will Bless you all, and give you all the strength to get through this terrible time. My heart goes out to you, along with my thoughts and prayers.

Dearest Julie, Rich, Eddie & Stacy - My heart is aching for all of you. Reading about Richie as the man he became makes me so proud to have known him as a young boy, one of my son Braden's best friends in Snee Farm (Mt. Pleasant) and at Jennie Moore, Laing & Wando. I vividly remember one special day when Richie came with us on a boat outing. I remember him as a sweet, lovable, polite and fun-loving kid - so full of life. Reading about him and what he accomplished since then, I am so impressed with the young man he became, his development as a remarkable leader, clearly doing his personal best for the benefit of those in his charge and, especially, for all of us who live in America and cherish the freedoms that too often we take for granted. While I am heartsick that he will not have the joy of watching his own son grow up, I also am comforted in knowing that he left a legacy in his new baby boy who can carry on Richie's heritage. I hope all of you can one day find joy and hope in your many wonderful memories of this very special man. Bless you, Richie, for your ultimate sacrifice and for all you believed in for all of us. I will always remember you.

Rich, Julie and Eddie we are so sorry to hear about Richie. He had a heart of gold and was tough as nails. The time I spent with him at Wando showed me how one young adult could uplift an entire wrestling team no matter how the matches ended. He will never be forgotten by the people he met, may God be with you during these difficult times.

Although I do not think that Richie ever really knew it he had a huge impact on our family! He took my husband under his wing when he was a freshman in ROTC at Appalachian, Richie guided him through and never let him down. He was also a Fraternity brother of my husband. My husband always looked up to Richie and I can proudly say Richie is one of the reasons my husband now proudly serves with the 75th Ranger Regiment.
I fondly remember being lost on the Appalcart in Boone one day when Richie got on and I just looked at him and asked him for help, he of course laughed at me and asked me how long I had been riding it, I told him an hour and had no clue where I was going. We got off where he was getting off and he took me to where I needed to go, but he laughed at me the whole way!
Thank you Richie for always being the "light" in the room. You are truly missed!
Stacy and Baby Richie you will be in our thoughts and prayers for eternity. You guys are amazingly strong!

Julie and Rich,
I was so sorry to learn of your son's death. One of my daughters, Mandy, said she knew him rather well. I believe all of you were together on a boat trip with Merrily several years ago.
My prayers are with you and your entire family.

To all of Richie's many friends and family:
I was Richie's seventh grade science teacher. I remember Richie fondly, even though it was many many years ago. He always had an impish grin and enjoyed a good laugh. Even though he served his fair share of detentions, he was a good boy with many friends and always seemed to enjoy life. I wish I could have known Richie as an adult--I am so happy to know what a wonderful person he grew up to be. I am grateful for his service to protect our country, and appreciate the ultimate sacrifice that he and his family have made for all of us. May his son inherit his great qualities, especially his warm smile and devilish sense of humor.
I am truly sorry for your loss.

I remember Richie's smile and laugh all those years we were stuck in home room together. He was ALWAYS polite with a kind of mischievous grin that you knew he still liked to get into some trouble every now and then.
As a fellow family member of a veteran soldier, all of us share a close bond, always knowing that our loved ones are heroes on a daily basis. My family, Lee, Cathy, James, Bailey, and my husband and I, all send our heartfelt prayers towards your family.
Sincerely,
Class of 1997

Julie and Rich
My thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire Cliff family at this time.
I keep thinking about how proud you always were when you spoke about Richie and his accomplishments. I remember our visist back in May when you were leaving to attend Richie's Green Beret graduation. I was so moved listening to both of you and how excited and proud you were of him. It's a memory I'll never forget.
I know your Mt. Pleasant friends and family will help you in the days ahead.

To all of Richie's family -- Lee and I are so sorry for your loss. In times like these, it seems like words are just empty and meaningless. You have been in our thoughts and prayers since we heard this devastating news and remain so. My heart aches for you.
