Mel and family: Though we haven't seen each other for many years, we are deeply saddened to hear of Thomasina's passing. The memories of our days at Allen are forever etched in our minds and hearts -- for Thomasina and me, particularly, as classmates, roommates in Coppin Hall (our sophomore year) and as members of the choir (at least for awhile).
Trust God to sustain and strengthen you and grant you the peace that only He can give during this time of bereavement and in the difficult days ahead.
Please know that we care and share your loss.

Dear McFarland and Costley Families,

Words cannot express the deep sadness felt by the loss of Thomasina Costley.

Her life was full of so much love... the love of family, the love of friends, the love of giving, the love of just living each day to its fullest. I hope you will find comfort in the wonderful memories that live on in the hearts and minds of all the people touched by her wit, engaging smile, and grand personality!

Tomie will surely be missed, but never forgotten.

May the love of God keep you in this most difficult time.

With love and deepest sympathy,

Elaine

To the Costley and McFarland families:

In a world that does its best to make us a little fuzzy around the edges, some people still managed to have bold outlines. They know who they are, what they're about, and what they alone can give. And just like them, the gifts they share are bold, bright, beautiful.
Tomie was all that...ten thousand fold. She didn't compromise on being the person only she could be, someone who didn't hold back on sharing the gifts only she could give.

I share with you and your families the loss and grief you feel and am hoping you find comfort in knowing that others will always care.

Most Sincerely,

Link, Billie T. Shepperd

Tomie Costley was one of the most phenomenal women I have ever known. I was a little girl when she and my late Mother met during their teaching tenure at Birney Elementary School in SE, Washington, and Tomie was a pleasant, and welcome presence in our lives. A determined, brilliant, dedicated educator, wonderful wife and mother, and caring friend...and oh, so hip, stylish, classy, quick witted, culturally conscious, and smart! I will forever be grateful for her demonstration of true friendship, integrity, and the kindness she consistently showed to me and my family. She was a wise woman of faith, and I know that God--a great, and always present friend and helper will comfort and strengthen Mel, Janon, and family.
