Denzel Clayton Obituary
'Forrest'
Forrest, 65, of Parkersburg, WV and Matthews, NC, passed away on April 6, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family and friends. Forrest was born on December 14, 1944, the son of the late Ernie Mary and Howell P. Clayton. He was predeceased by his two brothers Paul Clayton and Thomas Clayton.
Forrest was a loving and devoted husband, father and friend. He had a lifelong love of the automobile and made many people's dreams come true by professionally restoring antique and custom cars for 45 years. He was an avid hobbyist, fisherman and lover of bluegrass music.
Forrest is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Sherry Edwards Clayton; mother-in-law, Dorothy Bell of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Sonia Snodgrass, granddaughter Nekeshia McKinney of Charles City, VA; step-daughter, Tonya Collins; son-in-law, Chris Collins and granddaughter, Clayton Collins of Greenville, SC; step-son, Alex Covington, daughter-in-law Kim Covington and grandson, Logan Covington of Lake Wylie, SC; sister, Delta Gillum of Peachtree City, GA; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Alfred Newman, III and his entire staff for the outstanding healthcare, love and support provided to Forrest during his long term illness.
A memorial service for Forrest will be held at McEwen Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road, Charlotte, NC 28227 on Friday, April 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive family and friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Presbyterian Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 33549, Charlotte, NC 28233-3549; Mount Harmony Baptist Church Building Fund, 2817 Mt. Harmony Church Road, Matthews, NC 28105; or a charity of your choice.
McEwen Funeral Home, Mint Hill Chapel, in charge of arrangements.
