Sending you and your family love and prayers at this Thanksgiving, Mary. I just returned from a mass that was offered for my beloved Dad. The holidays are certainly not the same without our loved ones. But in giving thanks, I tell God how grateful I am for having blessed me with the best Dad that any child could have asked for! I know that you all feel the same for Gerry in your lives...his spirit lives on in all of you! God bless. Love, Margie Schels

When I arrived at DePaul in 1981. Gerry was so kind. I would often chat with him in the faculty dining room in the old student center. He had so many funny stories from the classroom and always gave me great advice. I will miss seeing him around the university. I will remember Gerry and his family in my prayers. Gerry -- You've been a good friend and a valued colleague - you have kept us all honest, on our toes, and phenomenological in my 20 years at ISPP, and more before my time -- we will all miss you.

I will miss Gerry Lietz very much. He was one of the first people I met when I joined the DePaul faculty more than thirty years ago, and I still remember his warm welcome and cheerful presence in the faculty lunchroom. In his generosity to colleagues and his concern for student learning, Gerry represented the very best of DePaul. He was a fine teacher, a wonderful man.

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn the loss of such a wonderful man. When I first started at DePaul, he was so helpful and respectful. He really made me feel welcome. In later years, he would stop by to say "hello" and talk about family even if he was busy. I could tell how much he cared for all of you. I will always remember and miss his gentleness and caring.

To the Lietz Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn the loss of such a fine man. I will always remember his gentle nature and the respect he had for everyone. I lost my father in April, and I do hope that he will meet Gerry in Heaven...they would enjoy each other's company! Mary, you were a blessing to Gerry and to your family during his illness. In having worked with you for many years at St. A's and having had the privilege of teaching your children, I know how very important family was to all of you. God be with you! Love and prayers, Margie Schels

Dear Mrs. Lietz and Family,
I'm so sorry to read of the death of fine gentleman DR.Lietz. Gerry was the type of person that was always willing to talk to even if he had a class coming up here at DePaul.
I am Carpenter/ Locksmith here and for the last 35 years. He and I worked well here at anything that was in need of repair and any key problems that would come up. I always enjoyed talking to Gerry.
