I will always remember Martha's great sense of humor. She was our designated driver across England and Scotland in the summer of 1983, because she was the only one of us traveling companions who had the courage to drive on the wrong side of the road. Throughout our studies at the University of London, and carpooling from Jackson to USM in Hattiesburg for our doctoral studies, Martha always had a funny story to tell. She was a kind, eternally young soul. I look forward to seeing you on the other side, Martha!

Dr. Jack I am so sorry to hear about your loss. You have my empathy and sympathy. I am a former MC student and your mom was my instructor. We were both surprised to learn we were both from Winona and knew some of the same families. She was a very special lady. Frankye Seals Humphrey

I have many fond memories of Martha Jane from school days, piano lessons as young students in Winona. Later , with Martha & Arnold as parents, some of our children were good friends. Finally Martha's vigil at the VA visiting Arnold, we would see each other there. Please accept our sympathy, our family join us in wishing all of you good memories. Sincerely, Reva & Ellis Hart & Family

Martha was a dear, dear lady. She was my Sunday school teacher at Broadmoor Baptist Church for several years. I shall cherish the memories we made in that Ladies' Class. Thank you to her family for sharing her with us. I will be praying God's comfort for you during these difficult times. It's wonderful knowing we shall see this precious lady again one day.

I am so sorry to hear of the death of your mother, and my friend, Martha Hammond. Martha was a dedicated teacher and a wonderful colleague. I enjoyed my years with her in the English Department. I'll never forget her gold rain boots and your father's delicious pimento cheese that she would bring to share. While a gracious Southern Lady, she knew the fine art of flirting, and would always ask about my husband with, "How's my boyfriend?" I know the many wonderful memories of her well-lived life will help sustain you in the months and years ahead. Thank you for sharing her with us.

Martha Hammond taught me many wonderful things about Milton when I took a course with her at Mississippi College. She was a delight to know and travel with--She accompanied an MC group to Spain in 1990 and I had the pleasure to be on that trip. I will always appreciate what Dr. Martha Hammond brought to my life and will remember her lovely smile, vivacious laughter.

I had Mrs. Hammond for several classes at MC many, many years ago, and I still remember her fondly. I thought so much of her that she was my first pick of three professors for my oral exams. I recently lost my own mother, so I can empathize with your grief, but join you in thanksgiving that our mothers are worshipping today at the feet of Jesus. Thanks be to God.

My condolences for your loss of Aunt Martha.
I remember her best for her chuckling laugh. She was happy all the time. I remember her joking around at the dinner table in Winona when Uncle Lawrence and others made fun of her food eating pace. Aunt Martha just smiled at them.
I think about her whenever I am taking my time and enjoying a good meal.
I loved Aunt Martha. She will be missed . . . for a short time. Soon, we will be eating dinner in Heaven with the Lord. Then, we will all want to make the dinner last for as long as possible. I hope I get to sit close enough to Martha so she can pass me the Lord's blackberry acid.
