You had an impact on me, and I still think about you. I silently struggle to cope with being spared when you weren't and then not doing more with this opportunity in life than I have done. You no doubt would've done much more with your life if you were granted the chance.

It has been a while since I have been here. It has been a couple of years since my roommate Andre died and a couple of months since my mother died. Its Memorial day weekend and it always effects me profoundly. This year is tough as I no longer have Mom to talk to about all of the stupid little things I used to. I am very much alone in this world. When I get notified of a new entry here it gives a small sense that somebody still cares and remembers. I miss my Son terribly as I feel he would be one of the people I would talk to about all of the stupid little things. To all, know that your words here have great value to me! I miss you Mick! Love Dad

My condolences to the family of this fallen Marine. May the Most High bless you all.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Brian Bekowsky recently under very sad circumstances, and I know his heart still grieves for his son, and now, my cousin, Andre.
All who grieve and mourn are in my prayers. May the unending, unfailing love of God fill your hearts, today and forever. Jesus still heals the brokenhearted .

It never gets better, I wish it would! I wish you were here. It does not get better with time. I cry every day for you. We recently lost 13 and it hit me really hard due to the circumstances. I grieve for all of the ones we lose and for all of their families. It hurts me very deeply that they are now suffering the same way I have been. I wish only peace for them.

Seven years today for seven sets of family and friends, and only a few days from the tenth anniversary of 9/11; that day that changed all our lives forever. Ten years ago last week or so, I was at Camp Pendleton watching my young 2/1 Marine graduate from boot camp, with pride that he had made it through the tough thirteen weeks. Didn't have a thought of what was to come; that the six hundred new young Marines I watched on parade would be a number soon surpassed in military losses. Some of these seven young men we remember today likely joined after 9/11, willing to make the ultimate wartime sacrifice if they were called, as we now know they were. The years pass, but it still seems like yesterday to me, so I can not imagine what it is like for the families. But we remember and I'm proud to call their names from memory, with a thought as well to the brave Iraqi interpreters who died with them on September 6th, 2004.
Michael Allred, Mick(Nygard-)Bekowsky, David Burridge, Derek Gardner, Quinn Keith, Joseph McCarthy, and Lamont Wilson. We have searched them each out and brought them to life in our hearts. Gratitude, prayers and blessings to each family member and friend.

To the family and friends of Mick Bekowsky -
I never met your son/friend, but I have come across his profile on geocaching.com as a Fallen Hero. I place these significant coins in caches all over the country as a tribute to those that have made this sacrifice and for those that have endured the pain of no longer having their soldier with them. I wanted you to know that as the Memorial Day comes before us yet again, that your sacrifice and dedication to the core ideals that our great country was founded on have not gone unnoticed. We thank you and honor you now and forever. God Bless the USA.

They say it gets easier with time......I am not sure I believe that. I think you just get better at holding it in, but when it comes it is more painful than the time before. It has been several years now and as I expected, with the exception of the few, most of our country has forgotten why you volunteered to die for them. It is sometimes hard for me to accept but then I dont have much choice and I have to remember that after all it is the weak of character the you stood up for as they are the ones that cannot fight for themselves.
I will never forget you or the any of the others that serve. I will try to live up to the title of American, I will always be your Father and most of all I will always be proud of you. I never told you that because I never wanted to take away from you and I felt that taking pride in you was somehow taking credit for what you have done. I would never do that but let me be clear, I AM SO PROUD OF YOU, I am sorry I never told you.
You are always with me in my heart and in my mind. there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about you but now it begins again. The season is here. There is always weeks of reminders before each of these events and it can be emotionally draining when you feel like no one remembers or really understands what it is really about, its just about a camping trip or a Bbq. I can promise you I never have to be reminded and I try to quietly remind others and encourage them to enjoy the freedoms they have but to remember why they have them.
I spent most of our time trying to be your father and this was supposed to be the time we got to be friends. I find my self missing that more all the time. Wish you were here. I love you and I am proud of you. DAD

Mick Bekowsky was one of most virtious leaders I have known in the Marine Corps. I was his Section Leader during his first year and a half or so during the Marine Corps. His peers were drawn to him, followed him through examples he exuded. Mick wanted to lead the section, and worked with me to learn the position, and was an asset to everyone who knew him. I knew when I left my position, I left it to one of the most competent capable men I have known. His loss struck me hard, and too often we lose our best far too soon. My prayers are with his family. I lived right next door to Mick's while growing up. As young as I was, I do remember that everyone adored him; his family, people of the neighborhood, and even my own family. The day of his passing came hard upon us all, and we wept for him and his family. We still pray for him and the rest of our fallen brothers and sisters in arms, and we fight for the same purpose as he. And, with that to say, we will live for the same purpose. We love you, Mick, and we miss you.

So long and yet it seems like yesterday. These seven Marines and their loved ones from that dark September 6th have been in my mind all month and particularly over Labor Day weekend. It was a trip back in time to my hometown, complete with fair and patriotic rodeo grand entry with a tribute to those who served. New to me was the sold out concert the night before, and everyone was talking about how the entertainer had sung a patriotic theme and then brought a group of Marines in dress blues up on stage to receive a large toys for tots contribution. The crowd gave the Marines a standing ovation and wouldn’t sit down. It was a good feeling to know that across the country similar celebrations of gratitude were happening. And despite the thrill of dress blues, we all know it’s the hot sweaty dirty guys out in the grit and sand in digital camos and desert boots that we are cheering for.
Then I came home and opened the e-mail forward with the u-tube video showing the signal motion for gratitude to our service men and women; hand over heart down to open hand, so natural and unobtrusive. Bless who ever came up with it.
So we remember these sons and their families and friends with gratitude and honor once again.
May God Bless You All, heart to hand.
