Peter Ayotte Obituary

Peter Paul Ayotte, a 40-year resident of Torrance, passed away on September 26, 2011 in Los Angeles, CA from complications of esophageal cancer. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 30, 2011, 10:00 am at St. Lawrence Martyr Catholic Church, 1900 South Prospect Ave., Redondo Beach, CA 90277. Reception to follow in the hall. His burial will be held on Monday, October 3, 2011, 10:00 am at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA 92518. Peter was born to Margaret and Ernest Ayotte on January 19, 1955 in Pasadena, California, a few miles from where he grew up. After graduating from West High School he received a scholarship to attend the Naval Academy and moved to Annapolis, Maryland to pursue his academic career. After graduating from the Naval Academy he was stationed in San Diego, and soon after met his wife, Tracy O'Bryan Ayotte, as her Navy sponsor. They were married on May 11, 1985 and lived in San Diego, Monterey and Virginia, all before settling in Torrance in the same house he was raised in. They had two children, Robert and Bryan. He had a dynamic and rewarding 20 year career, retiring as a commander from the United States Navy. After his career with the Navy he proceeded to Northrop Grumman where his last position was program manager for satellite systems. Throughout his life Peter had many accomplishments, including receiving Eagle Scout Honors, numerous Navy commendations, and Program Manager of the Year for the Air Force as Navy liaison for the Los Angeles air station. His leadership of numerous programs motivated and inspired all those who worked with him and for him. In his quiet manner he supported and cared for so many people in his life. Spending time with his family and friends brought him great joy. His true passions in life were coaching and watching his sons excel in many sports and dedicating his life to his wife and children. His proudest moments were seeing his son Robert attain a full scholarship to play football at UC Davis and his son Bryan receive an appointment to the Coast Guard Academy, where they continue to attend. He loved all of those around him, but his one true love was his wife Tracy. He spent all of his days cherishing the moments they shared together. Their unconditional love and unbreakable bond serves as a testament to the beautiful life they have built together. Peter was predeceased by his father Ernest in 1983. He is survived by his wife, Tracy; his sons Robert and Bryan; and his mother, Margaret. In lieu of flowers, the Ayotte Family is asking for donations to be made to the Fred Petersen Scholarship Fund. Checks must be made out to West High School and sent to 4928 Arvada St., Torrance, CA 90503. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits. Tracy and family, I´m uncertain what prompted me to search on Pete´s name today, over ten years since his untimely passing. I´m saddened by your loss. I knew Pete as my family "informally" sponsored him during his time at USNA. As a teen I was inspired by his quiet, kind, and thoughtful attitude towards others. I´ll always remember how he `drafted´ me to help him work on his light-blue Ford conversion van. He shared so much through example that I carried throughout life. I´m sure he has been missed by everyone he met.

I knew Pete while he was at the USNA many years ago. He parked his motorcylce at my parent's house in Annapolis. He was such a great guy - always quick with a smile and kind words. I'm so sorry for you loss. It sounds like he continued to grow into a very wise and gentle husband, father, friend, and community leader. May God bless you all in this time of sadness. Pete was a great man. I worked with him on a proposal a few years back and was impressed by his dedication to the team. He was a true leader and could get people to come together to make joint decisiont. I could imagine one of his ancesters being a French monarch he was so regal and centered--only much nicer, of course!

Pete had a zest for life that he passed on to his sons, sports, education and being gentlemen are just a few characteristics. There are no words that soften the loss you feel, knowing Pete is with the Lord is the salve that soothes. Peace, Debbie

Tracy, Robert and Bryan - I was given the information about Pete just last night by my family. I spent the night reflecting and talking about the young Pete, the "becoming a man" Pete that blessed my high school days. I send my prayers as you find ways to live with the loss of his "Big" presence. We are all blessed to have shared in his kind and generous life. It makes me happy to think that my friend may be talking football with my son while keeping a good watch over us all. Much love to each of you. When you are ready let's share stories and cry and laugh together. XOXO Tracey

I have known Pete for almost thirty years, I was stationed with both him and Tracy when they met. He was an exceptional Naval Officer and a true inspiration to all that knew him. He was a true shipmate in every sense of the word and the world is a sadder place without him in it. Rest in peace, Bill Scardina, Captain USN (ret)

Pete and his Dalmatian were such a fixture in the neighborhood. When they walked by our house he always stopped for a moment to catch up on the latest news about his sons and their sports activities. You could tell he was a very proud father. Pete was a long time friend from West High and will be missed. To his family, you will be in our thoughts and prayers throughout this most difficult of times.
