Hello Sgt Carrillo,
I normally have these conversations in my head or I talk to you when I’m alone. But I’m sitting here, next to you. Catching up with you since the last time I saw you. I try to come at least once a year, and as I read these comments I’m reminded of just how many people whose lives you influenced, even now over 14 years later. It’s a testament to the person you were, not only as my squad leader and mentor, but as a husband, father, brother, son and friend. I still think of that day, of that particular mission and how I wish to go back and make even the slightest of changes just to create a different outcome... for your parents to still have you with them, for your wife and son to have you by their sides rather than as a guardian angel watching over them... it’s hard. But I hope you can see just how greatly you affected everyone, the impact you left behind and how many of us work hard to bring honor to you and live a life that honors these sacrifices. For you, for Slaten, for any Marine who didn’t come home, or struggled after they did.
To Maria and Alejandro Jr., I am very truly sorry for your loss. As little comfort as that might bring. Please know that your husband and father was very much admired and respected by the Marines in his security squad and by those who have ever had the fortune to meet him. He was strict but fair, he got along with everyone and never had a bad thing to say about anyone or his job. I was just a kid when I deployed with him and he took me under his wing and kept me out of trouble. It was and is my greatest honor to have known him and to have served with him in Iraq.
May we meet again, until Valhalla.

Today as everyday of our lives we miss you and we love you. It never gets any easier, ever. The wound never heals, the memories will live on for ever as do you in our hearts. Thank you for giving me the best of you, our wonderful son whom still misses you and still needs you. When I look at him I see you. He is more you than he is me. He has your smile, your features and so many of him remind me of you. Just looking at him brings me to tears sometimes because I know he still needs you. I cant believe he is growing up without you. I wish you were here. I'm still learning to accept what is. I love you baby and I miss you every day that goes by.

Hey baby,
I miss you. I keep you in my heart every day that goes by. Memorial day...its always a hard to think that you are no longer with us and the only thing that helps is that I know in my heart that you are in a better place with our lord. I love you Alex and I will always do my best to honor you and all the wonderful memories I have. I have finally reached a point of acceptance and I let go of all the darkness and sorrow in my heart and I find peace in knowing that although I cannot change what is. I can live my life in a way that honors you and can bring us to you one day...
Junior has always had such a hard time and he will always need you but I will do my best to help him get where I am now, to help him live his life the best that he can, people have always said it gets easier with time and that someday we will overcome our loss but in all honesty that is never the case, for although some wounds can heal, there will always be a scar to remind us of the pain we all felt in loosing you. Some wounds can never truly heal and this is one of those wounds, a wound that we learn to deal with day by day, and we adapt our lives to that wound so that we may keep on living our lives as best as we can as much as we can...
The one constant person in both our lives is GOD and he is the one that has helped us every step of the way and keeps on helping us in every step we take, in him we find the comfort and in him we rely on. May our father in heaven have you in his arms every second of every day that we may live.

To the Family and Friends of SGT Carrillo, I can still remember the night we got the call that there was an accident. Almost the whole BAS ran to where he and his security team was. I remember talking to Sgt Carrillo just the day before in vehicle recover mission. It all seems so surreal, his passing. He was a good leader and lead a great team of Marines. God Bless.

To the family of Sgt Carrillo, I have searched for this memorial page to post on the Internet for years. Seeing this memorial on line brings back some very special memories that I will hold dear for the rest of my days. As the SgtMaj of his unit during that deployment, I had several opportunities to talk with him and he was so excited about the days ahead and returning from deployment. The moment I received notification of his injuries, my heart dropped, because I began to think the pain that was to be experienced by his loved ones when they were to be notified of his passing. Sgt Carrillo was a true Marine in every sense of the word. I think back to the night that we placed him on the Angel flight to the states, our hearts ached for the loss of our brother, but I was so blessed to have had the opportunity to spend time with such a gentleman. My heart has found peace now knowing that I had the opportunity to send condolences to the family of our dearly departed brother. Sgt Carrillo, rest in peace my brother and I'll see you again some day. To God be the glory for allowing you to be a part of our lives.

My heart is still empty,
My life is still turned upside down.
I await the moment when life will make sense once again,
I await the day that I will be able to pull it all together for our son.
He wonders and asks about you,
He wants you to come home,
He wants you,
I am trying so hard but I am so alone.
I don't feel there is one soul that can understand what we are going through,
How can we keep on living life without you?
How do I tell our son that there is no way for me to bring you back?
I have tried to help him understand but so far nothing seems to help me with that.
Too young to go,
And I feel too old to be.
How can life be so cruel,
how can we ever continue on without you?
I miss you so much, and I always seems to go through the same emotions every year, every time this date approaches the house seems so cold and I feel so alone, so empty and so helpless because I see you in our baby boy, he looks just like you, its so hard to see him sad, to see how bad he hurts and how hard his life is...we are trying to live the best way we can, but I now know that there won't be a day where we won't be missing you and wishing things, life would of been different, that you were here with us...I love you and always will and Junior will never stop loving you, you are his papi Alex.
This year I want to release balloons on the date of your anniversary, they will have a message from us to you, I know that you will get them, I love you and this is my way of sharing that love with you, the way you use to do for me on every anniversary we had...I love you baby.
Love always,

I remember when we use to have Quincenera practive every weekend and we would sit after practice and sit next to each other and talk about our relationships that we had and laugh about the times that we had crushes on each other but we stayed friends. I remembered when he fell for my friend at the time and we both made a deal to ask the people we liked at the same time and date, it was on April 5, 2000 around lunch time. We would talk for hours on the phone. I known alex since 7TH grade, we met each other at PE. The other day i have a Card that he wrote to me on my birthday and on that card he wrote that he will always be my closest friend and that even though he will be in kuwait or Iraq that we would see each other again one day. when i found out about his passing i was sad for a long time because i lost a friend that i cared for. To his wife and son, i give my condolescence and to be strong.

I will never forget the last time I saw you before that fateful night; you were praying. You might not have thought anyone was watching besides God, but I remember watching and thinking how encouraging it was to see prayer on the battlefield; it was my ray of hope amongst despair, a truly inspirational moment.
Although we were never very close, it was an honor, pleasure, and privilege to serve with such a strong spiritual leader as you. As a Brother in Christ and a Brother in arms, you will always live on in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice; like Christ, you gave us your all...

ALEX, was a good guy and a better friend. Met and Grew up with him all throughout middle school and high school in Carson. Looking back now those had to be the best years ever. I remember seeing him for the first time dressed up as a soldier for J.R.O.T.C.
gave him crap about the way he looked but I was confident deep inside he could succeed in anything he set his mind on. As He Did..

Just discovered this website. It is good to read all the moving testimonies.
I was the chaplain of CLB-5 during Carrillo's deployment. Carrillo was a very special person whom I will never forget. We had some great experiences together from the training exercises at Eagle Mountain to being out on the dusty plains of al Anbar, Iraq. I was very fortunate to have a time to visit with him before he left us on his angel flight back home.
I keep his memory alive by displaying his picture, along with another Marine, in my office. I also lift his name when I do presentations to various groups on my deployment experience. I will do whatever I can to keep his memory alive to my family, friends and others whom I encounter. I'm sure that others at Security Company are doing the same.
May God's blessings continue to be with Carrillo and his family, now and forevermore.

Our platoon has been out of the corps for a couple years now. I remember those long, hot days we spent in 29 palms and the big desert. You always amazed me with your positive attitude and devotion to the task at hand. We all miss you, and are proud to have lived, worked, and fought with you.

I still keep the memory of that aweful 16 hour flight we took to Kuwait. It was your second and my first. You kept me at ease the whole time. We talked bout our kids and wives. We landed, shook hands, hugged and went our seperate ways. You to iraq and I stayed in Kuwait. We kept in tough through email the whole time we were there. Then the emails had stopped. I figuered that you were home already since we were suppose to leave around the same time. I didn't get back till alsmost April, so I thought you were busy catching up and enjoying your son.
Today is 5-8-2009 and I just found out of you passing. I really feel like crap for not knowing sooner. Since you stopped writting I was afraid of finding that this was the reason why. God bless you bro, we'll bbq as we planned when we meet again.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines
Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full
We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward
What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give it all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives
Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us
They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of the lives that were lost for people unknown
Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

On the days I was scheduled to go outside the wire I was always happy to see him as my security commander. I will miss him and never forget him. To his wife and child if there is ever anything I can do for you let me know I would be honored to do anything for you in respect of my friend.

Dearest Alejandro,
There has never been, and will never be anything more honorable than making the supreme sacrifice of giving one's life so that other's may go on with theirs. There are no words that will fully embrace your loss. Your life was taken too soon, but rest in peace knowing that your son will become the man you dreamed of him becoming because of the beautiful gifts that you have given him - not only his life, but his freedom. I did not know you Alejandro, but I share my fathers sadness, not only because you were his student of the MCJROTC, but because you were my brother in our family of the Armed Services. God Bless you - I know you will continue to serve and protect from the Father's heavenly sky. SEMPER FI Marine.

To the Family & Friends of Sgt. Alejandro Carrillo,
We are saddened by the loss of this selfless man. One of The Few, The Proud. It takes a special person to participate voluntarily to protect our freedoms that many take for granted. Alejandro gave his all, because of his dedication to his country, our country. He is Our Hero.
There are no words that can take away your pain. However, may it comfort you in some way to realize that you are a part of a larger family, the United States Marine Corps Family. We mourn with you.
God Bless Sgt. Alejandro Carrillo and the family he leaves behind.

To the Family of Sgt. Alejandro Carrillo:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
