Ramsey Casteel Obituary

Ramsey Casteel, 29, of Nashville, passed away in Dallas on February 3, 2011, surrounded by the family that loved him. During his 18-month struggle with cancer of the brain and spine, Ramsey also benefited from the love and comfort of a large network of extended family and friends from around the globe. This wonderful group provided Ramsey with loyal support and many acts of kindness as he faced the increasing physical challenges of the disease with patience, courage and dignity. Born on March 30, 1981 in Dallas, Ramsey was a lifelong member of Highland Park United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Brad-field Elementary School, St. Mark's School of Texas Middle School and Highland Park High School. In 2003, Ramsey graduated cum laude from Belmont University's Mike Curb College of Entertainment and Music Business in Nashville where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Following graduation, Ramsey pursued his dedication for, and love of, the country music business in Nashville. Most recently he was the associate manager with Mike Robertson Management. Working in Nashville in an office on Music Row was the fulfillment of diligent study, hard work, and a dream come true for Ramsey. Ramsey was an easy-going, laid-back guy with a kind soul who was a continual source of entertainment to his friends. Besides his love of country music, he had a soft spot for animals -especially his feline friend of 22 years. He loved to travel, knew every back road of Central Tennessee, and had special affinity for any place with a beach. His sense of curiosity took him many places, and transformed him into a human almanac of country music trivia and wonderful stories. Ramsey is survived by his mother, Caroline Burk Casteel, of Dallas; father, Frederick R. Casteel, of Highland Park; sister, Catherine Casteel Olasky and brother-in-law Peter L. Olasky, of London; aunt, Ann Ramsey Burk, of Houston; and aunt, uncle and cousin, Mabyn, Pat and Mitchell Day, of Silsbee, Texas. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Mildred Ramsey and Percy Beal Burk, of Tyler; and Lila Singletary and Rupert (Jack) Mc-Ferrin Casteel, of Beaumont. Services will be held on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Park United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make contributions to the Ramsey Casteel Memorial Fund at any Regions Bank location. This fund will be used to support Ramsey's love of animals and music business education.

Dear Caroline, Fred, Catherine, and Ann,
My husband John Norman was a proton radiation therapy patient at MD Anderson at the same time that Ramsey was going through proton radiation there. I visited with Ramsey, his aunt Ann, and his fiance while we were all there. My husband and I have prayed for him since we met him. I felt a special bond with him while we were in Houston. From what Caroline said at the funeral today, I know there are a lot of people who felt that special bond with him. I was not able to stay for the reception, but I've heard that you had some wonderful pictures of Ramsey. He fought the good fight, but God must have wanted another music angel with Him in heaven. He will be there with Christ to greet everyone who loves him. His funeral was beautiful, and I loved the music - especially the last song. God bless all of you.
