Kay Wean Obituary
News Death Notice
WEAN, Kay Frances [Roeder] 56, of Beavercreek, formerly of Centerville, passed away Friday, June 24, 2011 at The Hospice of Dayton. She is preceded in death by her parents Herman Roeder and Frances Roeder-Kemper, brothers-in-law Randy Wean, Robert Walker and step-father Gerald Kemper; mother-in-law Ruth Wean and father-in-law Jack Wean. She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Ronald Wean; daughters Kandis Wean and Megan Wean; brother and sister-in-law Jim and Mary Roeder of Englewood; sister Marvel Walker of Kettering; aunt and uncle Elaine and Harry Kreitzburg of Centerville; sister-in-law Kyoko Wean of Youngstown, OH; nieces and nephews Kimberly Walker , Matthew Roeder and Melinda Schultz; several great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many loving members of the Schiller family, Kemper family and Campbell family, along with her Epiphany Lutheran Church family who will miss her greatly. Kay devoted her whole life to Epiphany Lutheran Church, where she was the Director of Drama and Children's Ministries. She was a graduate of Centerville High School where she was a member of the Centerville Coeds. Kay also graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree; she attended Capital University and the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Kay was an educator whose passion and love were children. She was a professional actress in Chicago and Dayton, and she directed numerous musicals at Epiphany Lutheran Church, Centerville High School and the community. Friends may call at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 6430 Far Hills Ave. from 4-8 PM Tuesday, June 28, 2011 and from 10-11 AM Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Epiphany Lutheran Church, Rev. Sara Cutter and Rev. Larry Hoffsis officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Children's Ministries and the Drama Ministries at Epiphany Lutheran Church. Ron, Kandis, Megan and Family, Kay was a most special part of Epiphany and I am grateful for the time she gave with her extraordinary theatrical talents. She touched the lives of so many children, my own included. May you rest in the comfort of knowing she is in the Lord's arms now.

This is one of my favorite pictures of Kay, from when we played sisters in Theatre Under the Stars' production of My Sister Eileen. She was such a fabulous actress, but even more importantly, it was an honor to get to know her. She was a fantastic person. I will post a few more photos!

My deepest condolences on Kay's passing. It has been many years, but I still think with great fondness on my time spent with Kay in the Epiphany musicals. She touched my life deeply, as she has so many others. She had great talent, great faith, and great passion for the arts. She will be truly missed.

I was saddened to hear the news about Kay. We grew up in the same neighborhood, I would go to her home to play since I had 4 younger brothers, we would ride bikes together, We lost contact until her daughter Kandis and my daughter Jacqui were friends at the same school we went to Centerville High. Kay will be greatly missed, and I know I will see her again someday. God Bless her family my prayers are with you all.

From far away I have thought about and prayed for Kay, hoping that a miracle would happen. Death has come far too early for her, and this is one of those times when I wonder, "God, what are you thinking?" What I do know is that Kay is whole and well and with Christ. Our deepest condolences are coming your way on the passing of Kay. She was such a wonderful woman, wife and mother and she will be missed by many. She has left a legacy of music by all those she touched not only with her directing but also her singing. I will never forget the first time I heard her sing at our church, Mighty Fortress. My memories of Kay are when I worked with her on various musicals at the church. I admired her vision, creativity and perfection for each production.
