Thomas Joseph Kealy

Thomas Joseph Kealy, age 84, of Wilmington passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 17, 2012. He died from lung cancer with his loving family by his side. Born in Manhattan, NY, Tom was the son of the late Josephine Frawley and Thomas Stephen Kealy.

He graduated with a Bachelors of Science from Manhattan College, a Masters of Science from Duquesne University, and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University. He was employed by DuPont as a chemist for 30 years.

Tom served his country as a Corporal in Korea from 1946 to 1947. He served for four years as one of the first County Councilmen for New Castle County from 1967-1971.

One of Tom's goals was to have a little bit of fun every day. He enjoyed directing Duplicate Bridge held at the Sellers Senior Center and the Elk's Lodge. He was an avid NYT crossword puzzler and always had a fresh joke to share. As a true lover of animals, Tom cared for the pets of family and friends. Most importantly, he treasured time spent with his family.

Tom is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pat; his children, Ann Mitchell (Henry) of Chesapeake City, MD, Tom Kealy (Kathy) of Landenberg, PA, Mary Jo Kealy (Mark Rockel) of Wilmington, DE, Terry Agee (Dave) of Bucks County, PA, Liz Kealy of Boston, MA, Kiki Comerford (Patrick) of West Chester, PA, Jean Isaacs (Mitch) of Wyckoff, NJ, and Maggi Chodack (Jeff) of New Milford, CT; his sister, Maureen Higgins (Jack); 15 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jane Kealy Ordemann; his parents; his brother, James and sister, Joan Clarke.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Brandywine Valley Funeral Care, 412 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 21, 2012 at St. Helena's R.C. Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809 commencing at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at Silverbrook Cemetery.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me".
