Matt Olivier Obituary

Matt Olivier

Pella

Matthew Wm Olivier was born on April 21, 1919, to Jacob and Lena Blommers Olivier in the Oskaloosa/Eddyville area. He received his education from the Madison Center County School. He passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at the Pella Regional Health Center-Long Term Care at the age of ninety-two.

On June 3, 1941, Matt was united in marriage with Hattie Aalbers in Lancaster, Missouri. To this union four children were born: Larry, Don, Alvin, and Marlene. Matt and Hattie and their family farmed in the Pella, Leighton, and Otley areas. After a battle with cancer, Hattie passed away in 1963. Matt retired from farming in the early 70's.

On January 28, 1978, he married Pauline Vander Linden. Pauline passed away in 2004.

Matt enjoyed going to farm auctions, flea markets, and toy and coin collecting. He loved his farm, working the ground, and caring for his livestock.

Matt is survived by his children and their families, Linda (the late Larry Olivier) and Lyle Hubbard of Kalona, Don and Mary Ann Olivier of Pella, Alvin and Mary Olivier of Knoxville, and the late Marlene and Larry (Nancy) Olsthoorn of Newburgh, Indiana; his step-children, Jaren and Nelva Vander Linden, Allen Vander Linden, Marlene Harvey, Sandy and John Hampton; and many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his sister, Gertrude Olivier of Pella; his sister-in-law, Magdalene Aalbers; and many nieces and nephews.

Those who preceded him in death were his wives, Hattie and Pauline; his son, Larry in 1996; and his daughter, Marlene Olsthoorn in 2007.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 26, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Covenant Reformed Church in Pella.
