George Looney Obituary

George Looney passed away peacefully Monday, July 12, 2010. Service: 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Springtown. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at White's Funeral Home in Springtown. Mr. Looney was born in Alamo on July 23, 1930, to Finis and Wilma Looney. He spent his adult life in Springtown. Before he moved to Springtown in 1945 as a freshman in high school, he had attended 21 different schools, being the son of a road construction manager and moving many times. His mother said they moved so many times his sixth-grade year that she had to fill out his report card to enroll him in school. George was an avid hunter and fisherman. He and his wife traveled extensively in their motorhome, visiting each state in the continental United States. George dearly loved his family. He was a retired tool and dye maker from Bell Helicopter. He is greatly loved and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilma and Finis Looney (Granny Bill and Papa); his sister, Mary Bradshaw; and his beloved grandson, Jason Martin. Survivors: His wife of 60 years, Dorothy; daughters, Kathy Phillips and her husband, James, Terry Gilmore and her husband, Gary, Tammy Leatherwood and her husband, Wayne; granddaughters, Kelley Walden and her husband, Scott, and Jacey Leatherwood; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Cameron and Cager Walden; and a host of friends and other relatives.

Dearest D.J., So very sorry to hear about George. He was a very nice and very funny man. When he would come visit you at the bank...he would always clown around with me. My thoughts are with you and your family. Remember he is with Jason now. They are having a blast. Take care. Love ya.

Dearest Family,
It saddens me to hear of George's passing. So glad we all got to visit and he was able to show us all the old home spots. We love all of you so much . . . just wish we could see each other more often. God be with you and His Grace cover you during this, your time, of grief. Dorothy,
We are saddened to hear of the passing of George.
I am sure my Dad,Bobby, has so many great memories of George and MB and of all the antics they got into as young men.
I grew up hearing of the tales of those 3 together. Best friends are 'best friends always' even when distance keeps them apart.
We send our prayers and love to you and the girls.
