Clarence Lykins Obituary

Clarence Douglas Lykins died early Monday, June 7, 2010, following a recent illness with cancer. Service: 10 a.m. Thursday in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel. Interment: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Known as CD or Doug by his family and friends, he was born March 30, 1929, in Coleman County. Mr. Lykins was a member of Estelle Masonic Lodge No. 582, Euless. A certified pilot, flight instructor and aircraft mechanic for over 50 years, he retired from Bell Helicopter following 37 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. Survivors: Wife of 61 years, Geneva R. Lykins; son, Brian and his wife, Vicki, of Richland Hills; daughter, Brenda West and her husband, Michael, of Hurst; grandchildren, Michael Lykins, Kelley and her husband, Phillip Harris, and Chance West; special niece, Shelly Stearns; and numerous other family members and friends.

Doug was my Friend and Mentor.My mother taught me how to fly.We both Taught at Hicks Field.Doug got me a teaching job at TCC for many years teaching Aviation.
He was one of the best TailDragger Pilot around.Old School,Stick and Rudder Man.
We had some Great Times Flying and Working together.
Thanks again for your support to The Masonic Home Kids.

Doug taught me to fly in the early 70s. He was more than a flight instructor though, he was a friend. He was also a good friend of my Dad's. He will be sadly missed. You have my sympathy. Goodbye "Hoss".
