Anyone who knows how we could contact a member of Mr. Weatherly's family - please contact me. Last time I spoke with Abbott he was at or with his grand daughter.
Heroes of Old Hickory
Dear family and friends,
We had the great honor of meeting and recording Col. Weatherly during a 30th Infantry Division reunion, in NC, in 2006. His son drove him over to our location so we could record his war recollections, to be used in the documentary we are creating about the Old Hickory Division. Amazingly, we had been searching for some time for one of the artillery men who directed fire to save the "lost battalion" surrounded atop Hill 314 during the battle of Motain, France. During the battle he remembered talking on the radio to the forward observers who called in their sightings. He always wondered who those men were? We had previously located one of the observers and wanted for them to meet, but found that impossible.
The observer who survived Hill 314 - gave credit to the accurate artillery that kept the men alive. Col Weatherly, then a battery commander for the 230th was that man!
A true hero by any measure.
We are approaching the completion of "Heroes of Old Hickory this year. According to plans, Mr. Weatherly will be included
in the film.
We were all so sad to learn this news. Our thoughts are with his family. We are trying to locate some of his family now for a few photos of Abbott.
Please feel free to contact us.

I recently found a dog tag in my long stored boxes belonging to Abbott C. Weatherly O-401602 T41-42 A
He and his wife lived in our home while he was stationed at Camp Atterbury in the 1940s. Am interested in getting it where it belongs. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with contact information if he is the one..
I enjoyed working with Abbott at BB&T and working with him on golf outings. We had many good times together. So, sorry to hear about his passing.. He shall be missed by all. What good times and thoughts he leaves us all.

Abbott was truly one of the fine members of the "Greatest Generation." His service during WWII was remarkable. His devotion to his God, country, and family was evident in all that he did. It was an honor to know him. We will all miss Abbott, but we will savor the fine memories.
We pray that God will give comfort to you all during this time of loss. May God bless you with His peace.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you go through this trying time. It was good that our paths crossed through Civitan. May the peace of God comfort you. He will be greatly missed. What a great man!!
