Dear Jean and family, I was so very sorry to read about Mr. Matthews passing.
What a great ,kind man he was and many families and young people from Acworth and Kennesaw area gained so much from his setting a great example about what a Man should do to grow into a great father and example to other young people. He will be missed.
To the Matthews Family,
We moved onto Matthews Road in Cedar Hill, TN in August, 1991. Mr. & Mrs. Matthews were our closest neighbors and such good people. We have many good memories of visiting them and swinging on their patio swing. They were so good to us and loved our boys and we all loved them. We did not learn of his passing until today and we are sad. You are in our prayers.

Dear Hal and the whole Matthews Family,
I am thinking of you so much right now, but then, I have thought of you so many times over the many, many years I have known you. Coach Matthews will certainly be missed, but his fine example of decency and caring will stay with us always. That smile in his photo and the twinkle of his eyes...how could we ever forget that?
Love and big ol' hugs from Judy Henderson Scharf in Erlangen, Germany (It's not Acworth, but it's a good place, too.)

Lordy, he's gone home now, he was a fair, considerate man. Never heard a bad word come out of his mouth, I can still hear him on the practice field,"up down, up down " I also remember he loved to fish lake Acworth. I am so blessed to have known him, thank you Lord for that blessing.
Always admired Coach Matthews as did all who knew him at Acworth High School. Beverly Fowler
Coach Matthews will forever live in the hearts of all the young men he mentored onto the football field. He was an instructor of courage, perseverance and sportsmanship. Many great men in our community are a direct result of his guidance, patience and love. Although I have to be in Texas for my niece's wedding this weekend, my prayers are with the entire family of the loss of yet another pillar of our community.
